I've started up an Orc Hunter on my brother's account. Not because I like the game, mind you, but because I'm hellbent on secretly ganking my boyfriend's Paladin.
That's devotion... to something, anyway :PnivenusDecember 3 2008, 01:44:57 UTC
Not sure I understand the goal here, but then again I've never played WoW (which I assume is what you're talking about from what little I know of it).
On the subject of paladins, I've got to say I really like what they did with them in 4e, reimagining them as essentially defenders of the faithful. No more of that stuck in one mold crap like all the previous additions had. Neutral good paladins? Check. True neutral paladains? Check. Chaotic evil paladins? Check, baby.

Doesn't count if it's a prestige class. Blackguards didn't require one to be a paladin and while their features were similar, they simply weren't the same thing.
And besides - you're ignoring all the would be neutral good and true neutral paladins :P.

I think you're not understanding how classes work in 4e, which is markedly different than in 3e. Fighter/clerics, as in 3e, don't exist anymore since multiclassing has been nerfed substantially. Not to mention clerics are much more specialized as buffers and healers than they were in 3e.
Essentially, paladins have picked up the martial side of clerics in 3e. They're the divine defenders, whereas the clerics are the divine leaders (for comparison warlords, a new class, are martial leaders and bards are arcane leaders).
So, no, a fighter/cleric mix wouldn't get the same effect in 4e, though it might have back in 3e.
