Day 5 in Calgary

Some more of my ongoing observations:

Traffic lights here are slightly different than in the US.  Every one I've seen so far has had its lights in a horizontal line, rather than vertical, with red on the left and green on the right.  Also, all the left turn arrows here flash.  Finally, I guess here it's a traffic violation to run a yellow light, not just a red.  Several intersections have "Amber & Red Light cameras."

It seems to me that Calgary has more porn stores than most cities, and they're pretty evenly spread around town.  I have no concrete numbers to base this on, but it just seems that way.

Calgary is really spread out.  I didn't realize just how much until I drove to the south and western edges of the city today - distances to the city center from the southern and western city limits are about 16 and 22 miles respectively.

Speaking of driving, drivers are horrible around here.  Not only do they tailgate, fail to maintain consistent speeds, cut each other off incessantly, and routinely cross multiple lanes of traffic to exit in 100 yards or less, they don't appear to pay any attention to other drivers on the road.  I have glanced at passing drivers (or drivers I am passing) numerous times, but never see them even slightly turn in my direction.  People I've met up here have commented on how polite drivers in the US are to each other, even in places like LA.  Hey, if these people think Angelino drivers are polite compared to here...

For all the differences, I'm having a lot of fun in Calgary.  I think I've had more beer in the past week than in the previous 2 months, which is great, but looking at a $30 tab for 4 or 5 beers is somewhat frightening.
