DATE: Day 73 (backdated) CHARACTER(S): Laura Roslin/airlocknow and Lia De Beaumont/chevalier_lia STATUS: Closed, in progress SUMMARY: Lia decides to get to know her roommate. Allies are good, right? LOCATION: Cabin 304
Laura was regarding her roommate with amusement. She had been kneeling beside her bed now for over an hour, head bowed in prayer. After a while Laura grew tired of watching her muttering exaltations or whatever gods-related things. She hoped her roommate wasn't one of those religious fanatics. She's had enough of those in one lifetime.
Her mind was wandering when suddenly the woman spoke, sounding as if she were in a different place. "Where do you come from?"
Lia stared at the woman for a moment. A particularly bad tangle distracted her and she yanked her brush through it, wincing slightly. The answer was...rather confusing. "Caprica?" She echoed and wondered how bad her geography was. She'd never heard of it. "Where is that?"
And then, because that was rude. "I'm from France."
"Twelve?" But Lia didn't pursue. She knew that it got complicated very quickly when people were apparently from the future. Besides, it didn't truly matter where you were from did it?
Blue gray eyes stared at the offered hand confusedly for a moment. But she'd seen this interaction. Surely she could imitate it! Carefully she shook the other woman's hand. "Lia de Beaumont. I suppose I could be...stuck with worse people."
Lia managed a quick smile, reaching down to smooth a dress that wasn't there. So rather she ended up smoothing her shirt over her stomach awkwardly. "I...have no idea what to ask you. It seems rather redundant to ask you about your home or the weather when we are stuck here."
"Your offer is very kind," Lia said simply. "I've...never had a child. I've never wished to have a child." And thus she hadn't fulfilled her supposed purpose as a woman. For almost nine years they'd been hounding her to marry and settle down...and with anyone but Maximillien Robespierre.
She looked back to Laura. "Do you have any children?"
She never planned to become a mother, and not having a child is surprisingly fine with her. Laura never predicted that she would become the figurative mother of the entire fleet, though.
It's blunt but it answers the question. Lia cleared her throat, trying to gather herself. She had to be strong now. What had happened to her? Beyond finding out...so many blows all at once.
"Perhaps...when the child is born...I will not keep it."

"Caprica is part of the Twelve - never mind," she said. "Let's talk about something else. It will save you a great deal of confusion, trust me."
She held out a hand. "I'm Laura Roslin. It seems we're stuck together."
