This credit system was a bother, Matt thought. Not that he'd really bought much yet, but the hacker had rather enjoyed not having to worry about money. As soon as they had reinstated currency his thoughts had gone to finding some way to cheat the system. At least he had a relatively good job. That was something he wasn't used to.
In any case, he mentally worked out how much he should have as he walked away from the cafeteria register. Not too bad. He decided that he'd have to get something for Claire; he still hadn't gotten anything in return for the gift she'd made him.
His idle thoughts were interrupted when Matt realized that the cafeteria seemed much more crowded than it was when he had first walked in. He couldn't see any empty tables. The hacker frowned; he'd actually gotten a full meal for once, so he couldn't bring it back to his room or the media center. So he sighed and wandered around a bit, hoping to find someone he recognized with an empty seat. Recognized and could stand sitting by, at least--for a while the only open seat he could see was at a table with Larry.
Eventually he spotted Alita sitting at a relatively empty table. He hadn't spoken to her since she'd shown up again. Maybe she was remembering what had happened better... Matt's curiosity got the best of him.
"Er, hey," Matt said, walking up to the table. "This spot taken?" he asked, pointing at the seat across from her.
