So, the company I am interning for does a lot of machining. This means they use a lot of little metal inserts to cut bigger chunks of metal. So there are like hundreds of these things little metal bits and all they have been doing with them is just throwing them away after they are done. I was stuck with horror, being the avid recycler that i am, and when the opportunity to set up a recycling program appear I jump on it. Doing my part to help, and all that. It was only a few hours later that i was told what they do with the recycled carbide. THEY MAKE THEM IN TO LAND MINES. In the catalog where they advertise for this "program" they have a picture of a grandpa fishing with his grandson, as if to say "recycle to make this world a better place." They apparently forgot to tell little Jimmy and his fishing pappy that because of me they are now surrounded by bombs or else they would not be looking quite so happy. I currently have like 20 lbs of these inserts on my desk and I am feeling a little ill.
