Appearance:
Shiki’s real appearance is plain in comparison to her current one. Aside from the uninteresting short brown hair and brown eyes, the real Shiki wore large round glasses and dressed very plainly, never feeling comfortable enough with herself to want attention drawn to her. Her body, while being of a reasonable height and weight wasn’t something she was proud of either.
Now Shiki’s appearance is exactly that of her friend Eri. Her hair is past shoulder length, flipped out and a pinkish red and she always wears a cap on top of it all. She no longer wears glasses, not needing them. She also always wears the latest in steam punk fashion, and has picked up Eri’s bad habit of showing off her mid drift and child bearing hips. The only thing the same is her eyes, as she and Eri shared the same eye colour.
Shiki is also rarely seen without Mr. Mew, a stuffed cat she made herself. Mr. Mew is black, saved for his eyes, nose, paws and insides of his ears (which are all white). He comes up to Shiki’s knees in height.
Personality:
Shiki seems to be a very bubbly and cute girl. One who, on the outside, appears to be very confident, outgoing and knows everything about fashion. The truth is this is really just a farce. Shiki is good at pretending; pretending to be Eri that is. In reality Shiki is actually very jealous of Eri, and lacks confidence in herself. She in fact admits to hating herself. Because of the fact she pretends to be Eri, it is very hard to tell how much of her is the real Shiki.
Traits that are definitely hers however are her sweet and kind nature. Shiki cares a lot about people and is always willing to give a listening ear (“Because sometimes, people just need someone to listen!”) and a helping hand to those who need it no matter how small or big the issue. (as shown in canon when she’s eager to listen to and help “777”) She has a fine eye for detail which makes her excellent; not even a loose button escapes her. She is very passionate about sewing and even loose buttons irritate the heck out of her. At times she can get a very aggressive and won’t take no for an answer. (Like when she saw a loose button on Neku’s pants and forcibly stripped him so she could mend it) She can be very cheerful but is also easily depressed if the situation with her appearance is brought up. Shiki can get deterred from time to time but when she sets her mind to something, she can motivate herself to do pretty much anything. Normally Shiki is quick to figure things out like the riddles the Reapers give her and Neku in canon. Also, despite being shy and in Eri’s shadow before receiving the curse, Shiki finds it easy to socialize with people now and makes fast friends. With people like Neku, Shiki gets easily frustrated. Lastly Shiki is easily swayed by people’s opinions of her.
Abilities/Weapons:
For ordinary skills Shiki is very gifted at sewing. For extraordinary abilities however Shiki is able to control her plush cat Mr. Mew. When Shiki was making Mr. Mew, she found a pretty rock in a similar shape of a heart on the outskirts of her home. Thinking it was just a chunk of quartz she decided it would be Mr. Mew’s heart and put it him. Little did she know that it was actually a mana crystal. Now Mr. Mew is somewhat sentient and moves according to Shiki commands.
How well can your character hack?:
Shiki’s never shown much mechanical interest and also believes in letting people have their privacy. Therefore she has never tried hacking and wouldn’t likely succeed at it if she did.
Weaknesses:
Shiki’s number one weakness is actually Eri. If someone knows Eri and met her before Shiki, Shiki becomes completely invisible to that person, due to her curse. But that’s not the only way Eri is Shiki’s weakness. Despite being her best friend, Eri was a good contributor to Shiki’s inferiority complex. She both misses Eri and envies her, and the topic of her friend usually makes her quite sad. The inferiority complex itself is also a huge weakness.
Shiki also can’t do anything in battle without Mr. Mew.
History:
Shiki was born in Abantaire. She lived there for ten years and made friends with Daisukenojo “Beat” Bito and his sister Raimu. She then moved away to Melior. Shiki remained rather invisible and lonely at her school till she started working on Mr. Mew when she was 12. While working on Mr. Mew at school, a girl named Eri noticed her working away. Eri complemented her work and the two became friends. Eri was good at designing clothes and Shiki at sewing them. The two worked together on many projects.
But Shiki was very jealous of Eri. She was popular, smart, friendly, confident, and everyone loved her. She wore flattering and fashionable clothing and looked good in it. Shiki had no confidence in herself although Eri didn’t see anything wrong with her. For the most part Shiki was just Eri’s shy tagalong and was invisible to everybody else but her friend.
Shiki was largely influenced by Eri’s interests which mostly pertained to fashion. Because of this Shiki wanted to be a designer and have the talent for it Eri did. However one day, when Shiki was upset about being unable to come up with a good design Eri gave it to her straight: “You’re not meant to be a designer.” Although what Eri meant was that Shiki’s true call was sewing, Shiki was still hurt by the comment. Later that day Shiki wandered into a shop by mistake, a shop that reportedly granted wishes. The shop keeper was able to tell what Shiki’s desire was; to be just like Eri. The shop keeper gave Shiki the choice of having her wish granted, and Shiki took the chance. Although the shop keeper warned her of the side effects, she didn’t care. In a flash of light Shiki turned into Eri’s splitting image. The shop keeper offered to let her stay for the night, as going home as Eri may pose some problems.
The next morning Shiki went to school, unsure of what would happen. What met her was something she didn’t expect; no one could see her, not even Eri herself. She was literally invisible to everyone.
She rushed back to the shop and started complaining to the keeper and demanded the spell be reversed. The shop keeper told her the curse was irreversible. When Shiki got even angrier, the keeper told her she had warned her of side effects and had never forced the curse on Shiki. Still mad, Shiki slammed the door and left deciding to never return. She ran straight home.
Things changed however when she got home. Her parents didn’t even recognize her and mistook her for Eri, asking her if they had seen their daughter anywhere. Shiki didn’t know how to explain to them and just pretended to be Eri. Reluctantly she started living on the street.
At least…until she could board a ship and start a new life…
