Thought id have a post in the morning. Kinda reflective mood at the moment. Photography at the moment for me is all about one thing... Composition.
I bought a super wide angle lens and it got delivered yesterday. I haven't been able to test it out but so far it's going pretty well. I have to grt about 30 cm from someone's face and their face only takes up about 1/4 of the picture. It's about 110 degrees with my camera. So if I am standing in the corner of my room, I can just a bit over two whole walls and 3 corners. That's a bit intense. It's so intense.
Id like to test it out but the weather is shit and I didn't wake up in time for the sunrise... Didnt hear the alarm. Considering thr surf is also bad it puts me in a little conundrum about what to do today.
I like planning for my nz trip because I have a LOT of motivation to think compositionally about my photos. I know where I'm going and what is there. The challenge is to make where I'm going refreshing and reproduce expert level photographs.
I'm starting to look at professional photographs and ask myself... Why is this photo successful?
The photographs I find highly successful are those in which, I believe at least, are tapping into our perceptual processes and natural desire to order things into meaningful relationships. This is also known as gestalt psychology. However I think I'm taking it a touch further into trying to figure out in advance what a persons perceptual reflexes are going to be
I'm going to call the dude at the dive shop tomorrow. I'm going to start doing some more diving
