Juan Martin Del Potro is the 2009 US Open Champ!!!

OK, really quick bullet-point post because I can't procrastinate any further. I shouldn't have watched the entire final but HOW COULD I NOT??? Hehe. (Forgive the all caps...I'm just super excited and practically can't sit still).

- OK, maybe the Roger icon isn't the best move, but it's rather appropriate, no? Plus I don't have a JMDP one to use...
- Roger played insanely good tennis up until the last set. Well, he played well the last set too, just more errors and couldn't stop Delpo.
- MAD props to Delpo for coming back after losing a break in the fourth set and taking the TB. And especially for keeping it together in the fifth set.
- BOO to Dick Enberg for telling Delpo that time was running out when Delpo wanted to say some words in Spanish during the trophy ceremony. I know the Lexus and millions of dollars in prize money are important, Dick, but it's Delpo's first grand slam win. I think the moment eclipses any of the prizes he's getting.
- I know Mirka's upset that Roger lost, but does the woman never smile for the other guy? Maybe I'm just nitpicking but that bugged me.
- OMG Delpo tearing up when lifting the trophy...I haven't seen a champion with so much heart since...uhh...well, I can't remember. Hewitt winning in 2000 was awesome for me but I can't really remember much about his speech. OK, Federer in '04 was pretty special. Man, I loved him back then.
- Federer getting pissy at the chair umpire and swearing was one of the best moments this Open. You hardly get to see robot Federer get THAT emotional. I loved it. Shows that he can do more than cry and smile for emotions.
- What a great match. Both played great tennis and even though I wanted to just boo on Federer the entire time, his stupid speech made me get all "Aw damn it, I still can't hate you. DAMN IT." Of course I still think he's a little bit hoity-toity, but he's earned it.

I am in love with this US Open. Rafa got to the semis. I made the semifinals of the SP and technically, did not lose since none of my picks lost. Delpo won!!! Marin got to the quarters. Kim Clijsters won the women's title. Lots of incredible matches throughout this tournament, lots of great tennis and it has been made of so much win.

Sigh. Now I can be less distracted every evening and study in "relative peace." Ha.

G'nite all!

tennis, roger federer, grand slam
