One of those days...

Thursday was fan-freaking-tastic. in every possible way. 1) I was at home; 2) I went downtown; 3) I went downtown to see FRANZ FERDINAND.

AHHH. After "Tonight" came out, I pretty much decided I loved Franz the most out of my long list of musical favourites. After the concert on Thursday, they are definitely my favourite band. I still love Coldplay but this concert was just made of so much awesome that...Coldplay has to move to second place now.

I met up with my friend and we drove to the venue. While I didn't mind being alone for Coldplay (at first), I decided never again do I want to go to a concert on my own. My friend is also a huge fan and the last time we went to a concert together, neither of us knew the band's work that well (Death Cab for Cutie, who we both love and know their songs better than that one time). We've been meaning to go to a show together for ages since we have similar tastes and a couple months back, when he told me Franz were coming to Chicago in April, I decided I'd rather go to the Chicago show than Philly, since well, I don't know anyone who I could go to see Franz with here.

Tickets were bought, I booked a flight home, took a couple days off so I could spend time at home with my fam, and finally the day arrived. You know how sometimes you don't get excited until just a couple minutes before? While I knew I'd be seeing Franz UP CLOSE on Thursday, and I thought about it almost every waking minute, it wasn't until I got into the venue and stood about 20 feet (15?) from the stage that I thought OMG. This. Is. It.

The opening act was all right but man. Franz chose a great opener ("Jacqueline") and immediately moved on to "No You Girls," one of my favourites from the new album. What I loved about the Franz show and was rather disappointed about with Coldplay was that Franz played a good chunk of songs from their first two albums as well as 90 percent of their latest release. Granted, Coldplay has one extra record than Franz, but I counted and both played about the same number of songs. I guess by the time I went to see Coldplay, I realised that I much preferred their old work rather than the new album and was just disappointed not to hear them play some of my favourites from "Parachutes." But never mind that.

I love love love Alex Kapranos (lead singer of Franz) and he is such a charismatic performer. And damn adorable. I guess especially since I was MUCH closer to the stage (and the venue was much more intimate, which is how I wish I'd seen Coldplay), it made such a huge difference. Oh man I just want to go back to Thursday night. Again and again and again. It was SUCH a great show. I've only been to five (one of them an AR Rahman one, so dunno if that really counts...) and I think this ranks at the top. FOR SHIZZLE.

I'll add pics later :) OMG I LOVE FRANZ!!!!!!!
