Ice, ice baby?

Hell freaking no. I leave my apartment today to find the tree that stands in the middle of the courtyard is sagging, its crystal branches touching the building walls. ICE. ICE EVERYWHERE.

My car had so much ice it took 15 minutes to scrape it all off. And some more. It's windy outside right now, so driving back from work was hell because ice chunks from the damn trees and wires all over were falling on the road and my car. I hope to God there're no dents on my vehicle.

I hate this damn weather. I know millions of people in America already do thanks to this devil's work they call ice storms. I have lived in winter-prone states for the last 10 years and I have never experienced an ice storm. OK granted, it looked VERY pretty when the sun briefly shone and just made everything shine brilliantly but otherwise, it's a danger! I hate walking on ice. I hate driving on ice. I hate that the wind is chucking icicles at me and everyone else as we walk to the store or are driving down the street. And of course, living in freaking Sleepy Hollow means no street lights and lots of trees that touch the gravel on the road.

Hurrah.

I have accepted this place as home. I accept that it is not a big metropolis or a suburb of a big metropolis. I am slowly accepting that I cannot eat more diverse food other than Italian, Thai, Indian, Chinese and the usual in this city. I have gotten used to life here but hell if I don't keep complaining about it! Who doesn't complain about their current residence once in a while? I can't help but compare this city to Sleepy Hollow. In fact, I have another person who agrees that this state (not just the city--now we're talking the state) does not have proper street signs. How are people going to find their way around places??

OK we're moving to a completely different topic now. All I have to say is, ice storms suck. It sucks for me because I generally detest winter. It sucks for most everyone because a) they have scrape the ice off their cars; b) You can't walk outside without fear that an icicle will spear you; c) Everything's slippery; and d) It's not even SNOW. Snow's pretty and fluffy and can be scraped off fairly easily. It's at least nice to look at. Ice storms pelt you and everything around you. When I saw those pictures on CNN and even with the threat of the storm looming here, I figured it wouldn't be that bad. It really hasn't although tree branches have fallen and people have lost power. When I came home today, the lights were flickering off and on for a couple seconds. I'm sorry but winter just sucks. It's dangerous conditions and it's cold to boot.

At least even if it's hot, you have to find ways to keep cool. That's not as bad (to me anyway) compared to keeping warm. Plus I don't really turn on the air conditioning in the summer so that bill's low. I just got my most recent gas bill and I'm pissed off. I wish I either had a roommate who could split the bill or that I lived at home.

And my neighbours are unfriendly. Just had to add that too.

Outside my office, when the sun shone...

And when the sun wasn't shining...

weather, sleepy hollow, winter, ice
