Dishwasher woes

If you know me, you know I love technology. If I had to rescue three things from my home in an emergency, they would be my computer, cell phone and probably either my ipod or my favourite book. I don't know for sure. And this is all assuming I'm wearing as many clothes as possible. Yes, I'm very materialistic. I try not to be, but it is the curse of my generation.

Anyway, I love machines. Telephone? Great invention. Washing machine? Even better. Dishwasher? Are you kidding me? Let's be lazier!
Granted, when I'm at home with my fam, we use the dishwasher every night because we have the habit of not doing dishes until right before bedtime. When I was at school and when I'm on my own, I tend to wash my dishes by hand because I never have a sink full of dirty dishes and I'd rather not waste energy by turning on the dishwasher.

Last night, in a moment of weakness, I decided to use the dishwasher. The main reason for that, mind you, was because the floor of the dishwasher was a bit icky looking. So, whatever plate or bowl or vessel that was vaguely dirty found its place in the dishwasher. I put the Electrosol tab in and switched it on for the short wash cycle. Then I went to do something else.

I come back to the kitchen and I smell a metallic burning type smell. It's the damn dishwasher! The water hadn't started running yet. Right. So I turned the knob a few times before I heard the water running. Then it stopped again. ARGH. ARGH ARGH ARGH you damn thing! So I turned the knob again, some water filled AGAIN so I turned the knob slightly and finally I heard the machine rev up. Thank goodness. So then I went to get ready for bed. When I came out, burning metallic smell had pervaded the apartment. ARGH. So I go up to the dishwasher and ohh no...

Suds. Suddy sud suds at the base of the dishwasher, on the nice tiled floors. Piece of crap! ARGH. So I mop up the suds but more keep dripping. More and more and more and finally I just shoved the kitchen rug under the dishwasher and let it soak everything. I needed to wash it anyway. So I sat on the floor, waiting for the damn thing to stop emptying suds onto the floor. About ten minutes later it finally stopped. I turned the knob so it would go to the next cycle. Thankfully the dripping of the suds stopped and it started the drying cycle. The droning sound started and I was afraid of more metallic burning smell but it didn't happen. I went to bed hoping the dishwasher wouldn't blow up the apartment.

First thing I did this morning was walk over to the leasing office and fill out a maintenance request. I've seen dishwashers that are pretty much falling apart that behave themselves. This one looks brand new and doesn't work properly. What the hell? I've only used this one maybe four or five times. Bah.

Last time I use this thing...at least until it's fixed and unless I'm desperate and can't be bothered doing the dishes.
