New shoes

"Interesting" morning today. I was up late last night (aka 1 a.m.) to edit and wrap up my legal writing assignment. I don't have class until 12 today, so I was torn on whether I should take the early (my usual) train or sleep in and take a later one. I decided I'll take the early train just because I can get to school and do some more edits, if needed, and study.

This proved a bit difficult because I was super sleepy when the alarm rang but I hauled myself out of bed and got ready. I even managed to be ready ON TIME and not all harried and rushed and freaking out that I would miss the train.

Anyway, getting to the point of this post. Last week I bought two pairs of shoes: one pair of flats for everyday wear and one pair of pointed toe kitten heels to wear for professional/dressy events. I decided to wear the black kitten heels today because I'm going to this talk thing and the jeans I'm wearing today are really long so the heels would be good to keep the pant legs from gathering dirt from the ground.

I tried the shoes on at the shop and they fit fine. I walked around in them and it was great. As soon as I slipped the shoes on today and walked over to the car, I stumbled. My foot kept coming out of the shoe. Do I go back in the house, change shoes, and then leave? NO. I forge on.

I get dropped off at the station and I seriously could not walk even a step forward without either stumbling, slipping my feet back in the shoes, or looking like a moron (as if the first two didn't make me look stupid). As luck would have it, the train was super late today. So, while I thought I would be running to catch the train a couple minutes before it arrived, I had nearly half an hour to just stand and stare at the station.

I decided that as much as these new shoes were awesome and cute and great to wear, I would not survive the day wearing them. I have to walk from the station downtown to my school, walk everywhere in school, climb stairs, etc. and then walk back to the station home. It would be hell. So I called my mother and asked her to bring me my blue flats. She very nicely did so and I walked over to her while the whole station watched me stumble my way towards the car.

Well, the blue flats are great but I'm still breaking them in so each step is pain, literally. But at least I can walk in them without my feet slipping out. Small price to pay.

Now I need to go exchange those kitten heels and get myself another pair of comfy flats. I miss my old pair; I've had them for five years and even though they're still comfy and worth wearing, the insides are really gross and dirty and it's probably time to give that pair a rest. Sigh. I would love to just refurbish that pair though...it was perfect.

Anyway. The train was over 25 minutes late and while it's a sort of express train, it decided to make a stop at each and every station on the way. I didn't even nap very well. So much for that.
