oh they're all fun aren't they?

she'll get over it as soon as something comes up she needs a parent for. but they can be so harsh can't they?

I got cross with india yesterday for not doing the dishes like i'd asked her to. she got all whingy and said she liked being a spoilt brat and she wanted to go back to australia where she isn't expected to do the dishes.

*sigh* i can see years of manipulation ahead using the split as a means to try and force me to give her what she wants.

good luck with amanda! remember this is the last one and then you're done with the teen thing :)

Oh my, what a situation. I wish you luck with it -- not having any kids (aside from the four-footed ones, who don't make requests like that) I can't say I understand, but I can sympathize!

My folks lived in Hawaii on the Big Island before I was born (and left 3 months before I managed to get born!)... I remember them talking about the wildly different ecosystems the islands could offer (although they didn't use that term back then). No, it doesn't sound like a good idea to let Amanda go down that road, especially in the back of a pickup truck, fer cryin' out sideways. That's not "overprotective" -- it's simple good sense.

Shifting gears: Can I make a small suggestion, since you are new to LJ? Try breaking up your posts into smaller chunks, paragraphs. I know, I know: I'm guilty of running off at the mouth (keyboard) and writing long too... I was glad someone said something to me. It makes things easier to read. :)

Hey thank you for the suggestion! Really do appreciate the input.. I went back to look at my post and I see just what you mean:) Speaking of ecosystems..this island has everything from lava fields, desert areas, snow topped mountains - Mauna Kea, and Mauna Loa...tropical rain forest, massive waterfalls, it really is quite beautiful. But you wouldn't wanna *live here. I'll post about that down the road....

Hi I'm as Australian stay at home mum with two preschoolers who decided to friend you. Your work in the hospice sounds really interesting as does your take on real life in paradise. Good luck with your teens. Can't offer you much help there. My youngest is just starting to walk! :o)

Hi Bushwalker! Thank you for befriending me - two preschoolers sounds blissful ... you will look back fondly on this period of parenting as the 'halcyon' days.. lol...I actually *love parenting - I would have had 6 kids if my husband had been willing - but the *teen* years are definitely challenging and tend to bring out the best and the worst of one's personality...Lis

When my sister was 16 she wanted to go with her best friends to a trip to the nearest lake for a fun weekend. Mum said no because of the same reason you had and turned out she was right. The car crashed and killed the 4 teenagers in the car. So yeah that was a good move by you. :D

Wow, rexmundi...thank god your mum stuck to her guns on that one...jesus christ! I honestly do not know how parents get past the deaths of their children (as in the 4 teens mentioned above) and move on to have some semblance of a normal life. It feels like it would be an impossible task. I have friends and clients who have/are experiencing the same thing and it is heart breaking to see their pain.
