ooooo! Thanks for giving me something to look forward to!
I just read Persuasion for the first time last summer, for my book club. On first reading, I was disappointed. I told my friend, "But Anne is so void of will. She just does everything people tell her." To which my friend replied, "Reilly, the book is CALLED Persuasion." Um, yeah.

lol, which was, incidentally, the title given by her brother since she died before it was published. Second to Elizabeth Bennett, though, I think Anne is my favorite of her protagonists. I think that void you see is her being too caught up in her own memories and regret, at least that's how I read her. She's got to be brought back into the present, but she's definitely got an inner strength I think.

I'm a bit O_o at Fanny Price in their new Mansfield Park--is it me or does her hair looked dyed blonde? And not in a good way....

It does looked dyed blonde. It's nice to see Traci Lords is working again....

I am always amazed when I see the trailers on ITV for their Jane Austen season. It is normally the most chavvy of channels, broadcasting delights such as 'Footballers Wives' and 'I'm a Celebrity, get me out of here'. I never normally even LOOK at it in the listings Except for, you know, the Dancing on Ice thing. And the F1

But they are excelling themselves lately, what with Jane AUsten, Primeval and SPN.

Sometimes it's great to just have British terrestrial TV...!

At least you two get it, even if it is only in Nov. for you Pen. Some of us have to do without entirely. *sulks* Even Footballers Wives looks good when you have a choice between that and CSI in German.

I shall have to make do with my P&P which I know by heart now

*dramatic gesturing*

*even more dramatic exit*

Have a good day both of you!

*pats* There, there. Don't worry; if it's crap I'm sure you'll be glad to have skipped it. If not, there's always DVD.

Heh, yep, we have channels like that here too. Still, I've liked other historical things they've done. They're the ones behind Foyle's War too, no?

o/t did you get my email about week 20? Let me know if you need a cover there or at s_n today.

I am instinctively nervous of any TV adapatation done by ITV. But at least they have the sense not to try and do ANOTHER P&P. And I do love persuasion....

Heh. I'm instinctively nervous of *any* adaptation. Still, I look forward to hearing what you all think of these new ones this month.

Hmmm...I have yet to see a good version of Mansfield Park, but I love the book muchly.Hopefully this one will be good. Her hair is dyed methinks - it's Billie Piper and they should've made her sort it out. Eurgh, now I remember why I had doubts about it...can't imagine her as Fanny.

I like Northanger Abbey too and Persuasion (of which my Mum is hooked on the old BBC version of - from 1995 I think).

I wish they had--it looks very bizarre and I'm fearing being distracted by it.

Random question: why is Portsmouth called Pompey? I've been meaning to look into this but I thought asking a local would be good too. :D
