Continuing with this month's Marauder's Appreciation Month....
This week I wanted to go for those unusual pairings out there in the fandom. What happens when you throw two seemingly mismatched characters together? Lots of good things actually if the writer is willing to take a chance and have some fun figuring out how to get into their heads and finding out how the pairing would work. Enjoy!
Title: How a Gay Man Should Please a Gay Woman in Bed, According to Luna Lovegood
Author: Snegurochka (
snegurochka_lee)
Characters: Remus/adult!Luna (references to Remus/Tonks, Luna/Tonks, and Remus/every male canon character)
Genre: PWP, Humour, Utter crack!fic
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: (From the author) Oh god, so many: Total OOC-ness and crack!ficcery, bad!sex (countered with good!sex later, though), realism, gender-bending weirdness, sex toys, and general, utter insanity. Apologies in advance for, well, all of it.
Summary: Remus may be a sex god with men, but his experience with women is lacking. (Adult) Luna teaches him a few things.
Why I'm recommending this fic: Because every now and then, a crack!fic is just what you need. For those of you unfamiliar with this genre, it is sheer and utter hilarity--lots of literal rolling on the floor laughing and mayhem ensues. Crack!fics, well, crack me up when the writer not only writes a hilarious story but keeps you interested in the characters to see how it'll turn out. Despite the fact Snegurochka admits this story was unbeta'd, she makes what could be a really poorly written situation (Luna trying to teach a very unwilling Remus how to pleasure a woman), and uses Luna's canonical quirkiness as an anchor to drive her story. I won't lie, things get more than a trite steamy, but the humor is pretty good too. ;)
Excerpt: Remus winced. It was true that he had not quite been thinking straight when he had shown up on Luna's doorstep earlier that afternoon, angry and hurt and ready for a confrontation. He was still uncertain how the conversation had deteriorated to his ridiculous masculine pride assertion that given thirty minutes he could show Luna what Tonks was giving up, and moreover, how Luna had come to just shrug and take her clothing off, glancing at the clock in mute challenge.
That was almost ninety minutes ago, and his point had quite evidently not yet been proven.
"Okay, fine." He frowned, gathering what was left of his pride. "What am I doing wrong?"
Luna perked up at that, sitting up on the bed and running her hands through her waist-length hair. "Oh! Well, that's easy. Pardon me for saying so out loud, but you're much more used to dealing with men, aren't you?"
Remus sputtered. "I- what? No! That's… ridiculous."

Author:
cluegirlCharacters: Sirius Black, Bellatrix Lestrange
Genre: Drama
Rating: R for language.
Warnings: (from the author) Really foul language. I mean it. Man, what trucker-mouths those Blacks have! Expect no smut, but plenty of abject cruelty. Topics include: Cancer, family alienation, abusive parenting, racism, abandonment, abortion, pregnancy from rape, terminal illness, euthanasia.
Summary: This is a story told in the correspondence between Sirius and Bellatrix over the years of their lives.
Why I'm recommending this fic: How many times have you argued with friends as to why Sirius was so moody and irritable during the last year of his life? Or found yourself arguing about whether Bellatrix meant to kill him, and why? Cluegirl takes up these questions like a true Immeritan and explores the dynamic between these two Black cousins throughout their lives. Through their letters, she explores what it means to be a Black united by blood, divided by the Sorting Hat and blood loyalties. Their relationship is intense, loving and hateful all at once. In the end, we're left with a complicated picture which rings true and realistic.
Excerpt: Sirius,
I can't believe it! You have to tell the Headmaster there's been a mistake! You can't be in Gryffindor! You simply can't! Tell him the awful old Hat made a mistake, and make him move you to Slytherin, where you belong! The thing's daft anyhow -- did you hear that stupid song it kept singing?
Aunt Dahlia and Uncle Polaris will just go INSANE when they hear! They'll be simply FURIOUS with you! I knew you shouldn't have sat with that awful Potter on the train!
You have to fix it, Sirius! I'll never, ever forgive you if you stay in Gryffindor! I won't!
~Bellatrix~
~*~*~*~*~*~
Dear Cousin Bellatrix,
Shut up and go back to staring at Lucy's bum. I'm fine where I am, and anyway, everyone knows you can't change Houses once you're sorted. They won't let you, always say the Hat knows what's best, and that's that.
And I like the boys in my dorm. They're dead brilliant, all of them. You'd have liked them too, if you'd had the guts to come down the car and meet them. But I don't reckon you'll want to meet them, now you know they're all Gryffindors like me, will you?

Author:
auburn_crimson (aka Mieko, aka Mieko_Belle, aka B)
Pairing: Lily/Remus
Genre: HetSmut
Rating: R
Warnings: Sexuality
Summary: Remus tells Lily a story.
Why I'm recommending this fic: Why the heck not? Lily/Remus is a closet favorite pairing of mine, especially after the non-canon bridge scene in PoA. B writes all kinds of pairings, het, slash, femmeslash, and all well done. Here we've got some nice smut for those of you that need it ;) but interwoven with the realism of a couple who, aside from being sexually intimate, are also friends and have that level of intimacy that makes sexual intimacy ring honest and true. The characterization here is well done so that even if you don't usually read or even like to think of this pairing, B makes you believe it was definitely possible.
Excerpt: "More story?" he said, and she nodded. It made her hair tangle on his pillow.
"This says that the beautiful maiden, this girl with hair spun from copper and gold and eyes stolen from the sky of some far-away world where stars are immense balls of molten jade, she was walking in the forest," he continued, marking punctuation and emphasis with harder touches, and softer, and faster, "and she met--"
"--a wolf," Lily said with him, and would probably have laughed, had she enough breath left.
Remus smiled. "Too cliché?"
"Just a bit."
"Sorry, I'm new to reading Braille, maybe I misinterpreted."
