Had a quite productive day at work...got loads of authoring done on the work intranet and partnership websites...which was great as now the websites are looking really good and I'm really proud of the work me and the team have put into getting them looking better with more functionality.  The boss is still in a strange mood...nothing new there...I'm not sure how is meeting with the big boss went so no idea if the big boss has signed off my new Job Description which will enable me to put in my appeal as part of the job evaluation.  I guess we can only see.

Had a good laugh today...mainly about my very drunken night out last Friday with my best buddy when we laughed so much we nearly peed our pants!  Two of the most laughable experiences were when we were trying to take a photo in the pub after much alcholol with Kath's mobile phone...the second was realising that the man we thought was waiting to be served in Greggs the Bakers was in fact the Bouncer at Greggs employed to keep the rif raff out! Bouncer at Gregs?  What's the world coming to!! Anyway, onto my fic...

One Night Stand / PART Seven / PG

There was gently knocking on Gary’s door. He opened his eyes and looked around…there it was again…knocking. He yawned loudly and peered through the spy hole.

“Morning Howard” said Gary opening the door and staring at a bright eyed, beaming Howard. “You look good for a time that you’re not used to!” he laughed.

“Ye it’s a bit early for me” said Howard with a huge smile, “I brought breakfast” he said holding out a paper bag. Gary could smell the coffee and freshly baked croissants. They sat and ate in silence on the veranda overlooking the beach. “So how long you here for?”

“The week” replied Gary.

“Ah” said Howard, “its just I go back tomorrow” said Howard softly.

“Oh” replied Gary, “I thought you were here for longer.” Howard shook his head, “can’t you change your flight?”

“Probably” said Howard, “but I don’t have anywhere to stay” he said looking from Gary to the sea, blushing red.

“Ah yes” said Gary with a smirk “there is that…mind you…you could always sleep on the beach….or maybe just shack up with one of your one night stands?”

Howard shifted uncomfortably in his chair and breathed in deeply, “I guess” he replied quietly, “But I won’t”. Howard rubbed his face and felt ill again…felt like he wanted to cry again.

“I suppose you could always stay here” said Gary staring intently at Howard as Howard continued to stare out at the sea. He watched Howard stop breathing, watched as Howard took in what he’d said then turned in his chair to face him.

“I’d like that” Howard whispered, “I’ll sleep on the floor” he said looking down at his hands in his lap.

“You can sleep in the bed” said Gary confidently, “its just that’s all it will be…just sleep”. Howard looked up and caught Gary’s eye and nodded. “So I think I need some sun…come on…lets go hit the beach and at least look like we’ve been on holiday!” Howard nodded and stood waiting by the door as Gary grabbed his stuff, then they headed down to the beach for the day.

It was great just to nothing other than lie back in the sun, read a book, read a newspaper, have a bite to eat and generally chill.

Gary watched Howard as he chattered to a couple of guys at the beach bar, late afternoon. Gary still wasn’t sure about Howard, wasn’t sure he could give his heart to someone so reckless, he sighed and packed up his book and towel and left Howard chatting

“You left” said Howard as Gary answered his phone a couple of hours later, “why did you leave?”

“Because I’d been sat on my own for an hour while you were stood at the bar chatting to those guys when you’d only said you’d be a minute and that you were going for drinks” came Gary’s reply. “Look Howard” he began.

“Please” said Howard, his voice trembling, “please don’t say what you’re going to say” he said wiping at the tears on his cheeks, “please give me another chance…I just lost track of the time chatting that’s all…there was nothing in it” he said miserably.

“Sorry” said Gary, “there’s someone at the door I have to go” and with that and not waiting for a reply he hung up on Howard. He couldn’t listen to him anymore, he just needed time to think, again, he’d been doing it for months and yet here he was still thinking.

“Room service” came the voice at the other side of the door. Gary opened it and beckoned in the waiter and tray…it smelt good…he was hungry and needed comfort food…steak and chips and plenty of beer!

Gary looked at the clock, it read 2am and someone was banging on his door, probably waking up the whole hotel.

“Ok, ok” he yelled grabbing his dressing gown and heading for the door. He yanked it open to see Howard stood on the other side, well not stood, more leant against the doorframe slowly sliding down to the floor. “Howard?” he said looking from him to the skinny guy who was stood in the background, smiling sheepishly.

I don't think there are many more chapters...its turned into a bit of any epic tale as I've tried to see where it goes and how to finish it...but the end is in sight!! xxx

gary, take that, howard
