Oooh, poetry!

Apr 13, 2009 23:03

So Here are the FOUR poems I owe you guys for the last few days. I didn't mean to desert you. Not that any of you really noticed, and with good reason. I have the tendency to wander off in the middle of things, but this time I'm determined to see the whole month's worth of poems through. To actually complete something.

...Speaking of which, I did find my old notebooks from way back when, and since nobody's really about much I'm probably going to post some of my old (for old, read crap and pretentious) poetry I wrote way back when, at college etc.

Anywho, once more unto the breach and all that...

Poem for Day 10

The Reading Mother - Strickland Gillilan

I had a Mother who read me things
That wholesome life to a child's heart brings -
Stories that stir with an upward touch.
Oh that every Mother were such!

You may have tangible wealth untold
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be.
I had a Mother who read to me.

- It's because of my Mum that my entire house was filled with books growing up, and that I spent every rainy day curled into a ball with a stack of books and my head full of amazing worlds.

Poem for Day 11

Fleas - Anon

Adam
Had 'em.

- This is sometimes attributed to Ogden Nash or a number of other poets, but the truth is, no one really knows where it came from, only that it is the world's shortest poem.

Poem for Day 12

Quiet Riot - rmccartt@highland.net

Quietly I stand in the warm sunlight
quietly I become a part of their riot
out and in and out again
Dancing and wiggling, chin to chin
Whirling and twirling
a twist and a spin
go this way then that
all to an end
Gather and carry
place to place I roam
stop here, stop there,
then carry it home.
In thru the door,
my burden undone
task to task, to each his own.
Work, ah work, it's never all done.

- A poem I found online about Bees. Especially for Derek. Because bees are fucking awesome! (I am sorely tempted to make that 'thru' into 'through', but that's just because I only really accept 'thru' as being a word when you're getting food in your car.)

And Finally For Today!

Poem for Day 13

Geek Love Poem - Anon

- I wanted to find something simple and geeky. I did. (You can buy the t-shirt from ThinkGeek if you like.)

Again no sign-off. Too tired and bewildered.
