This is meant to be a brief summary of the pertinent part of Supernatural in relation to my fic. If you've seen the show, you can completely disregard this entry. However if you haven't seen the show but are at all interested in reading my SPN/Muse fic that I will be posting soon, you should probably read this as the fic takes place during the fifth season of Supernatural.
Supernatural is about two brothers (Sam and Dean Winchester) who were raised to hunt demons after their mother died. Dean is fiercely loyal and protective of his family... because of this he sells his soul to bring Sam back from the dead. At the end of Dean's year he goes to hell, sparking a chain of events that leads to the Apocalypse. Angels, including one named Castiel (Misha Collins), storm into Hell to bring Dean back. And they (with the help of fellow hunter, family friend and surrogate father, Bobby Singer) try to stop the breaking of the 66 seals that will release Lucifer from his cage in Hell. Along the way they discover a series of books called Supernatural which (in much detail) chronicle their lives over the passed five years (seasons). When they find the author, an alcoholic somewhat agoraphobic man named Chuck Shurley, they discover that he's in fact a prophet. In trying to help the Winchesters, Castiel rebels against heaven (by trying to hold off the Archangel that's meant to protect Chuck). Castiel throws his life away to help the Winchesters. They fail and Lucifer walks the Earth. He takes a temporary vessel, Nick (Mark Pelegrino) while waiting for Sam to say yes because Sam Winchester is his true vessel, just as Dean Winchester is the true vessel for the Archangel Michael. We find out that the Trickster isn't just a Trickster he's in fact the archangel Gabriel. Lucifer kills him (this is important to my fic). The ultimate endgame is the release of a (28 Days Later inspired) demon virus referred to as the Croatoan virus.
