[ it's yet another Gym match with Bugsy, and the Gym Leader looks understandably wary when Kairi walks in, recognizing her as the girl who was with that silver-haired guy who one-hit KO'ed all of his bugs. She, however, just gives him a smile and the challenge starts.
It's noticeably longer than Riku's fight, because Kairi's team is nowhere near as high-leveled, but she does her best. Her happy-go-lucky Togetic manages to evade most of his Pinsir's attacks, doing a couple rounds of AncientPower to end it, her rarin'-to-go Seadra nearly washes out the Gym with a Hydro Pump to take out his Heracross, but is ultimately taken down by Bugsy's Scizor.
Leaving Kairi with a level 25 Quilava against a level 40 Scizor. Even with his Scizor not at full health, Bugsy doesn't look too worried, considering Taku's back isn't even lit up. ]
So you know your type advantages-- but the level difference is too great! My Scizor will be the one to squash you flat!
We're not giving up yet! Taku-- [ the poor little guy's already getting pummeled by the Scizor, even as he Defense Curls to protect himself. ] Smokescreen! We can do this, just believe in yourself! You can beat him!
[ the Quilava unrolls with a wince, nods, and the next instant, the entire arena is filled with a thick black smoke. Scizor's swiping ineffectually at the air, and both trainers are squinting, until a flicker of flame shows up in the middle of all that smoke. ]
Now! Flame Wheel!
[ the Scizor shrieks in surprise and pain as a ball of flame rams into it, sending it flying. Kairi's already hurrying to her Pokémon's side as he gives his head a shake, breathing heavily and looking about ready to collapse. ]
Not bad. [ now Bugsy sounds a little impressed. ] But we're not giving up either! Scizor can still fight!
[ sure enough, the Scizor's wobbling back to his feet. Kairi tenses, reaching for her Pokéball to call Taku back and let Hart handle the rest, but then they both blink as a bit of fire licks along the Scizor and it wobbles badly, then crashes to the ground. ]
Wh-- a burn!? No!
[ but indeed, Scizor's down for the count and Kairi's declared the winner.
... Too bad, she's too busy being half-slumped on the ground and hugging her very tired Quilava to do any sort of victory dance. ]
Great job... I knew you could do it!
