Reading some old books....

I like to read while I'm riding our stationary bike. I exercise to the right level for me, 5 1/2 miles or so in 20 minutes but I just can't sit there. I have to keep my mind occupied.

On a wild hair, I decided to reaquaint myself with three texts I got while I was in the Army, the first being the basic training manual. It isn't as detailed and professional as the old Air Force manual I used to have but it has some interesting stuff.

Chapter 2 covers Army Values.

The first one is loyalty. There are some interesting phrases in here which could easily lead to a veteran uprising. "To be loyal is to be unswerving in allegiance to the Constitution and completely faithful to the lawful government." "Any time you choose one individual's actions - right or wrong - over the safety and welfare of the rest of the unit, or over your own interest and commitment, you are eroding the value of loyalty." "You begin your Army career by swearing allegiance to the Constitution which designates the president as commander in chief."

The words "lawful government" or "choose one individual's actions..." "...over the safety and welfare..." and "...designates the president as commander in chief." What if loyalty to the Constitution and the concept of protecting yourself and others leads to the idea of lawful government? Was it legal for the courts to determine the presidency?

Just some strange thoughts that ran through my head.
