(no subject)
I haven't written in a while...at least here. I've been more dedicated to myspace of late.
But I decided that I couldn't nap, so I would write in the ol' LJ.
Things are ok. The trip was ok. It could have been a lot better. The whole my friends ditching me the night before and the night of my 21st birthday kinda jaded the whole trip for me...
As of today, since I have turned 21 I have not set on foot into a bar. I bought one 12-pack of smirnoff (which was for the boys...I had one), and had one drink and Applebee's. That's it. That's all of my alcohol intake for the last 2 weeks. Which is good, but at the same time a little anti-climactic.
I'm starting to think that maybe I won't have a big birthday party after all. I mean, why bother?
Band camp has been fun. I have til Sat. left with this group and then on Sunday I get a new batch of kids. I'm in charge of 13 12-year-olds. They're great kids. They go to bed at lights out, and they all get along. It's so nice. I hope next weeks group is just as good.
I only have 2 bassoon-babies this week. They're real nice kids. I'm having a blast teaching them. Next week I have 6 bassoon-babies! (So that will be 19 more names to learn.) I have to say, I'm getting very good at the whole remembering names thing. I had all my girls' names memorized by the end of the first day. (They still don't remember each other's names.)
I think that I picked the right major.
Honestly, I can't remember a time when I felt so strongly that I belonged somewhere. And even though I'm tired (and a little depressed still), I'm so happy here. I get to work with kids all day long. I get to help them become better musicians. This experience is what I needed.
