Life & Friday 5
Yeah, this is a bit late, but I spent yesterday first watching the IVC v. NETH game on ESPN2, then sleeping from about noon to 10am this morning. Gah, the World Cup games are great & addictive, I spent Wendsday afternoon yelling for Germany to score & was jumping around my living room like a loon when they made that 90th minute goal. I spent yesterday ranting at the bad calls & the undeserved yellowcards & the unseen fouls (the ref was just plain blind in that match.)
I don't know who I want to win more England or Germany, of course if the US ever makes it out of the first grouping I'll root for them, but with how they played against the Czech Republic, I'm not holding out too much hope. I can't watch the US v. Italy match today, I'm packing, cleaning, & getting ready for my mother's arrival tomorrow.
But I'll catch the highlights later & try to find a podcast of the radio coverage. I wonder if there's a widget that'll give me the standings & other stats (like who got banned from the next game, the arrest rate & damage tolls from the major riots, etc... )
What I'd really like was if itwas more mainstream in the US to follow the games. Soccer's a great game, fun to watch, people get hurt, the post game riots are such great family events, & you know it's like football & basketball, except the real tough guys play it (& some of those guys are beyond pretty- insert fangirlish squee- It's v. true, just go look at the team photos).
I think if the US just got out of it's rather xenophobic rut, they'd find that there's a sport that is ten times more interesting than baseball or basketball & who knows maybe they'll even realize that football is a major ripoff of rugby. But I don't ever expect cricket to ever crossover, it's just too baffleing for the American mindset (I've never been able to get it & I've been trying for ages.)
In other news- I've been thinking about a Firefly/Narnia cross, but I'm not sure, I'd love to have Jayne stumble into the Lantern Wastes or something, but then I think about Vera & Jayne's love affair with his firearms & crap like that, but then I remember Jaynestown & how noble he could be deep down...
Crap, I'm gonna end up writting this new impossible cross, ain't I? I'm gonna need t work on my Jayne voice & my Chinese curses... kuso.

1. What’s the most embarrassing thing/job you’ve had to do to earn money? Damn, I'ven't really ever done anything that embaressing, not for cash anyhow. Maybe, playing nanny to three kids... nah, even that wasn't embaressing, just taxing, v. taxing on my sanity, body, & my life expectancy.
2. What’s the easiest and quickest way you have earned a buck? Babysitting. Hands down it was the quickest way to get a $20 or more. You spend one to five hours entertaining a little heathen, feeding said monster, & bullying the kid to bed on time (tip: start an hour before the parent said & make it seem like it's almost painful everytime you let the kid 'win' a few more minutes- works like a charm on all but the most street smart/ intelligent.) By the time the 'rents comeback, you're watching some cable show (clean), the dishes & kitchen are clean, the toys & rest of the kid's paraphenallia is in proper places, & you're getting glowing smiles, big tips, & reccomended to their friends.
3. If you could set your own salary, according to your skills and worth, how much would you earn? I think about 12$ to 18$ an hour, on my ideal job- nothing b/c it'd be volenteer work overseas.
4. Are you a good saver? No. Hell no. I'm an implusive shopper, like to buy elaboate things, & have never had any sucess with any budget ever.
5. What’s the most expensive and useless thing you have ever bought? Ball gown. It cost about 150$+ & I could only wear it once to a party I left early b/c it was just too boring. I could have gotten away with nice slacks, blouse, & pretty shoes, but I wanted that dress & it seemed like a good price at the time, but now it only holds bad memories & a fair bit of resentment.
