How Discworld fanfiction starts
So for those of you that read my fanfiction and wonder "Good lord, how did she think of that?" I have for you, today, an unparalleled example of where some of this shit comes from.
Last night, I was over at a friend's apartment. He put on the soundtrack for 'Across the Universe'. Immediately I fell in love and today I bought said soundtrack.
I have become addicted to 'I am the Walrus'. Follow?
So I was browsing through my f-list and reading about Discworld stuff while this song was on. I started thinking idly about Discworld, which of course leads to idly thinking about Lord Vetinari. 'I am the Walrus' is still playing.
Mister City P'liceman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
Vimes is sitting in a chair now, in the blank white space. And of course this song has to be about someone now, so Moist is sitting in a ragged armchair, stoned out of his mind and tripping fucking balls, I don't know why. And Vetinari, obvi, is wearing a black suit, barefoot, singing 'I am the Walrus'; a figment of Moist's chemical-addled imagination. Vimes isn't real either, nor are the flying pigs, the cornflakes, Adora.
THIS IS WHERE THEY COME FROM. I would write a reasonable explanation for this shit, but I don't have time.
I need Leonard's hat to keep the ideas out, sometimes. Or I should just write this stuff down in my little pink notebook, file it away for the original crap because God knows there will be an occassion to bust out 'I am the Walrus' in that stuff. I mean, when you're dealing with frailties of time and space, life after death and necromancy, a little 'I am the Walrus' tripping could never hurt.
OKAY TIME FOR NUTRITION.

Edit: You know, it doesn't help that I've always had trouble figuring out what Vetinari would sound like. For a while I was thinking like, Alan Rickman-ish but that never worked for me. And since I listen to the radio a lot in my car my "voice library", if you will, is often singers for various bands, usually rock bands. And Bono has always been up there with "people that probably sound like Vetinari would if he existed as he does in my head" lol.
