Title: Crash Into Me -- OR -- Duo Maxwell Plays For Keeps (1/1)
Author: Sailor Seraphim
Rating: R
Pairings: 2+1, 1+2
Disclaimer: I do not own Gundam Wing or any of its related characters. I do, however, own the situations which occur in this fic. I also do not own the song "Crash Into Me." It belongs to the Dave Matthews Band. I'm basing the lyrics off a version played Live at Jazz Fest 1998, which is why they're slightly different from the regular lyrics.
Warnings: Shounen ai, language, and descriptions of Duo acting like a total and complete FLIRT. Also, kissage.
Notes: Part of the Duo Maxwell Songfic Series. Set a few years after Endless Waltz. The G-Boyz all work for the Preventers in some capacity. They are roughly 19-20 years old. Please read "Thank You" first.
Summary: Duo is at his wit's end and can't cope with his hidden attraction for Heero. It's time for more karaoke therapy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

It was Friday night.

Friday night was what was deemed "Bar Night" for the former Gundam pilots, and their numerous friends and associates meant that a great number of Preventers or political figures ended up at the Mori Bar to wind down after a long week. In fact, their influence made the Mori a popular place for off-duty Preventers to go for a bite to eat and a drink.

Friday night was also Open Mike Night. While the Mori usually had a house band or drew from the local musicians to perform during peak hours, the general rule (in the words of the Mori's owner) was that if "someone wants to sing, they could damn well sing if they want to! We're not stopping them!" It was usually after a round or so of drinks before anyone got wasted enough to get past their inhibitions and sing, though there was some talent amongst the government-backed "fire fighters." This Friday night in particular was packed. Every table was surrounded by people, no seat at the bar was empty, and there were even people standing around and enjoying the atmosphere. The word had been leaked out that Duo Maxwell was going to sing tonight. Gossip and stories had been traded back and forth all week, and from the last performance Duo had given, no one in the Preventers office wanted to miss a thing.

Duo, himself, did not know of his near-idol status from his co-workers. Duo sang if he felt like it, which was why the open mike policy had been a godsend that Friday two weeks ago. Feeling particularly horrible and unhappy, Duo had sung away his worries. Of course, Duo was not in a bad mood tonight. Well, not really.

Simply put, Duo Maxwell was frustrated.

Despite the song he had entertained everyone with, the hints he had dropped, and the neon sign blinking above his head, Heero Yuy *still* did not know how Duo felt about him. Ugh! Maxwell, stop being stupid! There is NOT a neon sign blinking above my head. Duo cast a glance across the table at where Heero was talking with Relena. Not yet, anyway. Dammit, Heero! Get a clue! I haven't been prancing around the apartment in my boxers for my health, you know! What am I going to have to do to get you to notice me? Tie you down and fuck you silly? Duo quickly slapped his mind away from the particular set of images *that* idea formed. However... if he could not tie down Heero *physically*...

Duo quickly downed the last of his Screwdriver and stood up from the table, making his way to the front of the room where the band was playing some easy tune. He did not even notice how the bar had gotten considerably quieter since he had approached the stage area. Duo talked quietly with the members of the band, moving his hands back and forth to explain his idea. Celeste, who was listening in to make sure nothing "off color" would occur, clapped her hands at Duo's idea. She gave her approval to the performance. The band gave their assent as well and Duo snatched up the cordless microphone that someone had found for him.

Without warning, the band started up. Faces turned to the front of the room, though conversations still went on uninterrupted. Duo nodded his head in time to the opening strains of music, the gentle guitar and soft backbeat. He felt himself falling into the music and raised the microphone. His violet eyes opened and he began to sing.

You've got your ball, you've got your chain
Tied to me tight, tie me up again
Who's got their claws in you, my friend?
Into your heart I'll beat again

The room was totally silent now, all conversations forgotten. There was a collective gasp of breath as the people in the bar caught the subtle, yet unmistakable innuendos in the song. It was particularly surprising for the tight group of friends and allies who knew the braided young man personally. What shocked them more was the fact that Duo was looking directly at Wufei as he sang. By the time the verse ended, Duo was practically sitting in Wufei's lap, his words turning into quiet seduction. The Chinese man sputtered incoherently and all Duo did was wink.

Duo turned to Quatre and crooned the next verse of the song as everyone enjoyed the show Duo was giving. Marine-blue eyes widened as Quatre realized that he was Duo's next target.

Sweet like candy to my soul
Sweet you rock and sweet you roll
Lost for you, I'm so lost for you

The Arabian blushed bright red, covering his flaming face with his hands. Trowa's visible emerald eye widened and he turned a Look on the American. Duo smiled flirtatiously and moved back to the center of the room as he sung the chorus.

Oh, and you come crash into me
And I come into you
And I come into you, yeah
In a boy's dream
In a boy's dream

Everyone waited on baited breath, trying to anticipate who would be the next to be the focus of Duo's amazingly sensual song.

Ooh, touch you lips just so I know
Oh, in your eyes, love, it glows so
I'm bare-boned and crazy
For you

Duo sung this verse at Lady Une, who was startled to be brought into this part of the camaraderie. His hand reached out, softly touching Une's cheek before he whirled around to the center of the room and his tenor lifted out the chorus. Une just laughed ruefully at Duo's antics, easily shrugging off the comments from Sally and Noin.

Oh, and you come crash into me
Baby
Please come crash into me
Oh, in a boy's dream
In a boy's dream

Surprising everyone, Duo dropped onto his knees, sliding across the hardwood floor and stopping in front of Hilde, seemingly contrite, but looking quite sexy as well. He reached out and took one of Hilde's hands in his own, holding it to his cheek as he sang.

Oh, now I've gone overboard
And I'm begging you to forgive me, lord
In my haste
When I'm holding you so, girl, close to me

The mouths of everyone in the bar dropped open in surprise. Hilde herself looked shocked, though slightly flattered. When her hand was released, Hilde held it out for a long moment still, before pulling it back down to the table and blushing. She refused to look at the others at the table. Duo sung out the chorus yet again, his eyes closed as if he was singing to someone who was not in the room.

And you come crash into me
Baby
And I come into you

Rising easily off his knees, Duo seemed to glide across the floor to the table where Relena was sitting. The Vice Foreign Minister was startled, waving her hands back and forth to try and ward away the braided singer.

Oh, hike up your skirt a little more
And show the world to me

As Duo's voice melted across the words, Relena flushed a deep red, moving in her seat nervously. She crossed her legs and smoothed her skirt down self-consciously. Somewhere in the background Zechs muttered something about protecting his sister, but Noin's voice held him back with a giggle. Dorothy laughed at Relena's embarrassment, thoroughly enjoying it. Duo turned the lines on her smoothly, his voice dropping and octave and becoming huskier.

Baby, hike up your skirt a little more
And show the world to me

Dorothy struggled, but could not quite contain her blush. She shook her head at Duo, a platinum eyebrow arching high. Duo nodded and once again sang the chorus out to no one in particular.

In a boy's dream
In a boy's dream

Duo's smile turned almost predatory and he turned at his next victim.

Heero.

Oh, I watch you there
Through the window when I stare at you
You wear nothing, but you wear it so well
Tied up and twisted, the way I'd like to be
For you, for me, come crash into me

The raw emotion in Duo's voice caught everyone off-guard. He moved with definite intent towards where Heero was sitting, hips swaying with every step. But, instead of flirting outrageously with the Prussian-eyed Preventer as he had with the others, the braided man stopped a respectful distance away and simply sang. Duo, himself, struggled to put everything he felt for Heero into the words of the song. Please understand me, Heero, Duo begged silently, still singing. Please understand.

Oh, yeah
Come crash into me, baby
Repeatedly
Crash into me
Crash into me
Crash into me

The stoic Japanese man did not even flicker. His arms remained crossed and he stared stonily at the chestnut-haired youth as if he had been asked the time and not propositioned. The words of the song had no effect on cracking Heero's tough exterior.

Duo wavered as he felt his heart being crushed in his chest, but he had to finish the song. For the casual observer, there seemed to be a slight flicker across Duo's face, but he quickly adopted a teasing manner, turning to address everyone in the bar in a teasing tone.

Duo didn't see Prussian blue eyes fixed solidly on his back.

You know it
I'm the king of the castle
You're the dirty rascal
Crash into me
Oh, won't you crash into me, baby?
Oh, I'm sitting in the view
You go bouncing on me
Come tumble tumble

Violet eyes closed yet again, the honeyed voice manipulating the words as he sang, twisting it into something even more sensual and desperate. Duo poured himself into the song, but for him it didn't matter.

Oh, yes, I see the wave
Come and crash into me
Oh, yes, I see the wave
Come and crash into me

Heero didn't care. The one person he was singing for didn't respond at all to the song. Duo's voice raised as the song came to its crashing peak.

Crash into me
Living if you do
You go 'round in my...
Oh, you come crash into me, baby
Oh...

Duo allowed the last note to fade away. After a stunned moment, the bar burst into applause and cheers. Duo smiled for them, his friends and those others in the bar who had listened to him sing. He smiled for them, but he didn't smile for himself. As he moved away from the center of the room and back to his seat, he was too lost in his own hidden grief.

That was why he was surprised when he felt the touch on his shoulder. A strong hand pulled Duo around and into a crushing circle of arms. Duo gasped and looked up into Heero's face. His face was impassive but beneath the tousled dark bangs, Prussian blue eyes were shining brightly with emotion.

"Heero?!" Duo yelped. Had he made a huge mistake? Was Heero upset at the public way Duo had expressed himself? Duo didn't think he could take Heero hating him... expressing his emotions and being rejected was bad enough, but losing the Japanese man's friendship was one thing he couldn't bear.

Heero's arms tightened around him, giving him a little squeeze. "Do you know what it was like for me to hear you sing that song to everyone? Do you know how it made me feel?"

Duo could only shake his head dumbly. All words and thoughts were driven out of his head. Why was Heero standing so close? Why was that look in his Prussian eyes? He wasn't angry? Could it be happening? Was what he thought was happening, happening?

Heero bent his dark head closer to Duo's chestnut one. Their faces were only scant centimeters apart and Duo licked his suddenly dry lips nervously. "Is that offer you gave me still available?" Heero asked huskily.

Duo's mouth dropped open in shock and Heero bent swiftly to exploit Duo's surprise. Their first kiss was rough and clumsy, but Duo could feel Heero returning the same emotions he had put into the song. That simple fact made Duo dizzy with excitement and happiness. Heero had understood him after all!

As the broke apart, Duo lifted a hand and stroked it through Heero's dark brown locks. "The offer's still available," Duo said cheekily, regaining his voice. "In fact, I don't think anyone's been asked as many times as you were."

A deep rumble started in Heero's chest and he burst out laughing. Surprised yet again, Duo laughed with him, twining his arms around Heero's neck and leaning his forehead against the strong shoulder. They were finally together.

And all it took was a song.
