Traveler of the Worlds Summary: Our lives are intertwined and what I do affects him, just as much as what he does affects her, and when we add it all up together, we’ve got a hell of a mess. Good is a relative term…
Notes:
For Mikari, who wanted a good story. XD
I do not own Mikari, Cherri, or Matt. But I do own Snow. XD;
Good Story
I do not know how it all started. But I blame Reno. And quite naturally he blames Elena, who has in turned blamed Rude, who has aptly blamed Mikari. Mikari blames Tseng, and Tseng, who is more pissed off than any of the others, blames me. Now that we have the original blame order settled, I would just like to say that Reno really is to blame because no one makes a better scape goat than a fool who let a goat loose in the building. Reno is to blame simply because Reno is to blame.
Billie, by the way, is in good health. According to Reno he’s off training in the mountains to increase his chi for a Kung Fu competition. The worst part is that I think when he mentioned it over the loud speaker this morning he was completely sober. I was in a meeting with Tseng and the President when his cheery voice came over the loud speaker.
To the best of my knowledge he should have been in Gongaga with Rude. But he was not and I would not find out until later, that Rude was stuck in a ditch with Mikari in some shoot out in the lower sectors of Midgar. But that’s getting too far ahead of myself. Back to this morning in which I was in some Alexander forsaken meeting with the very grumpy Rufus Shinra and an exasperated Tseng.
It was not pleasant by any means one stared me down while the other tried to link some shred of sanity to me and my antics. I shook my head at some question about thinking this was a game.
“No sir.” I answer obediently, “I sent Reno and Rude to handle the problem in Gongaga, they are both familiar with the are and its citizens.” I pause, “Further more, Rude is the one person who can more or less even Reno out. Everything is under control.”
There is an annoying ding of someone coming over the PA.
“Hey guys! Reno, the sexy red-head here. I just wanted you all to know that Billie it alive and well. He’s in the mountains training for a huge ass tournament and if you all love him as much as I know you do, you’ll leave 100 gil in a the chest near the Turks office. If you don’t…” he pauses and I know he’s trying to hide a chuckle, “Well I won’t go into the details but it’s not going to be good.”
I shake my head my hand raising to my head in disbelief and irritation just before Tseng does the very same thing.
“Under control?” Rufus repeats, “You said he was in Gongaga.”
“I thought he was.” I softly answer.
But Tseng’s got my arm and we’re headed down the steps of the office, “We’ll take care of it sir!” And we’re gone.
“The hell’s he doing back?” Tseng half yells.
“I don’t know any more than you do!” I retort, “But the problem is the money isn’t it?”
“I’m more concerned where Rude might be.”
“That jerk,” Elena bites, “Is with Mikari in the lower Sectors.”
Tseng and I exchange glances, “Why?”
“He thought that I couldn’t handle the job. So he took it.” She scoffs crossing her arms ready to start kicking anyone who might question her.
“Says who?” Tseng inquires.
“Reno said that Rude thought he could do the job better, so he and Mikari went to the sector to handle the gang problems.”
“Then who is in Gongaga handling the ‘Reactor Monster’ problem?” I ask.
“What?” Elena is clueless, “Reno didn’t mention Gongaga, only the gang war in Sector 6. He said that I needed to ‘hold down’ the fort because I’m the rookie. But I’ve been a Turk longer than Mikari!”
We rush down the hall leaving the blonde in a stupor. “One of us needs to deal with Reno the other needs to get to Gongaga now.”
“This wouldn’t have happened if you tasked people properly.” Tseng scolds.
“Me?!” I push him against the wall in my irritation the ice forming quickly around him, “I did exactly as you instructed. I sent Reno and Rude to Gongaga. I sent Elena and Mikari to deal with Sector 6. I went with you to speak to the president. It’s not my fault that they didn’t listen.”
“Perhaps if you were capable of leading,” Tseng breaks from the ice and seizes me by the wrist. He’s physically stronger than I am, “We wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
Physically stronger but not magically and because he knows this it comes as no surprise when I am hasted and out of his grasp. But before we can continue my PHS rings.
“Rayjah.”
Even Tseng is willing to put our quarrel aside.
“Snowie.” Mikari whines, “Make rude wear a dress.” In that instant she hands the PHS over to the irritated man, “Leader, tell her this is not an under cover mission.” She takes the phone back, “But we were given orders to infiltrate the Honey Bee in! And I think Rude should be a woman!” He rips it form her fingers, “I’m a man, I won’t have trouble getting in.” Mikari comes over the line again, “But he needs a pretty dress!”
The PHS drops to the ground, the two yelling back and forth.
“The hell I do!”
“You’d make a pretty girl~”
“Who the fuck do you think I am?!”
“A Turk!”
“I am not Cloud Strife. I’m not putting on a fucking dress, Mikari. And if not for you, I wouldn’t even be here.”
“Me?! You’re the one who had to have Elena sent in your place because you’ve got a thing for the enemy. We want the job done that means you can’t make babies with Tifa.”
“Excuse me?! I was headed to Gongaga. Leader was to take the package to Seventh Heaven.”
There is a pause and I am unsure why I haven’t hung up but Tseng is quietly listening too.
“Then why are you here?”
“Reno said that Elena was taking my place in Gongaga because he needed more magic support and that I needed to go with you as an escort.”
“But Ren-cake told me that Elena was taking the package to Seventh Heaven because you couldn’t control your hormones so you had to come with me to Honey bee inn.”
And the only thing that is the same is Reno. He calmly picks up the PHS, “We’ve decided to just get this done. If you’ll excuse us it won’t take too long.” Mikari chirps in over his shoulder, “I’ve found something more fun than putting Rude in a dress.”
The line goes dead.
I sigh, but Tseng grumbles, “Reno.”
We duck into the elevator and head to our office where there is an annoyingly long line with people putting money into a box. Reno is standing over it he’s got two action figures, one is an armored polar bear that I easily recognize, and the other is a penguin that looks like it has a laser strapped to its head.
“Hey,” Reno grabs the wrist of the nearest person, “That’s eighty, I clearly said one hundred.”
The executive drops and extra twenty gil into the box and runs away.
“These are Billie’s friends. He suggests that you pay all the gil, otherwise…” he pauses, “Well it won’t be pretty.”
I’m pretty sure he’s sober. But it’s really hard to tell. Tseng and I cut through the line.
Tseng clears his throat, “Reno.”
He turns to run only to turn to me. “Explain.” He turns around again only to run into Elena. Gulping hard he steps back into Rude and Mikari.
“Crap.” He grins, “Well for being Turks that took you guys a long ass time.”
“Don’t move Matt.” I order as he tries to disappear before he’s noticed. “You’re in trouble too.”
He shakes his head, “Nope, sorry Leader.”
Tackling Reno out the window I try to grab for one of them, only to see that he’s summoned Bahamut and are flying away safely.
xoxox
“Snow’s going to kill us both.” Reno grimaces.
“I’m more concerned about Cherri’s wrath.” Matt replies.
“Yeah she’ll kill us too.” Reno agrees, “Because someone tackled me before I could grab the cash!”
“For a Turk,” Matt grumbles, “You’re really bad at improvising.”
Reno scoffs, “You’re lucky I need you alive.”
Matt quirks an eyebrow, “Watch what you say, because I don’t need you alive. My orders were only to make sure you didn’t get in over your head.”
Xoxoxo
Tseng sighs and I grumble, “Cherri.”
We redistribute the money as we think we should. And I decide to take the box back to its owner and I can’t help but wonder why Reno would listen to Cherri over Rufus. I sit in her office with the empty box - Reno on her left Matt on her right but both refuse to make eye contact.
“Cherri what the hell?”
“What the hell what the hell?” she bellows her head in the box before she turns to Reno and slaps him in the back of the head, “Where’s my money?”
“The other Turks prevented us from getting it.” Reno simply answers. She looks to Matt for the truth.
“He didn’t grab it when we made our escape.”
Cherri smacks Reno again and sits back down, “Oh. Snow. Hi.” She narrows her eyes and slinks down so that she just barely peeks over the desk, “Whaddya want I’m busy.”
“Why did you put us against each other and demand money of everyone?”
Incredulously she responds, “Hello? I like money. Now go away, didn’t I say I was busy.”
My eye twitches as I know she’s not going to give me a straight answer. “Fine, I’m taking Reno too. I’ll send Mikari as a replacement.” I look at Matt, “try to stay out of trouble.”
“I always do.” He half grins.
And we’ve both decided that Cherri has an unnatural skill for keeping out of trouble and if we are with her than we too are safe.
I shove Reno into the elevator.
“Just tell me why you tried to swindle money from Shinra employees.”
Reno chuckles, “Oh well, the Little Prez wanted money, and Gongaga only required one Turk, so after I finished up, I went to lunch with her and Matt.”
I know they didn’t pay. Cherri probably did and that explains why she would want more money.
“But why turn against Rufus for Cherri?” I inquire leaning against the door, all of this will keep my mind off of the ride.
Reno nods, “Oh that,” he shrugs, “I was bored.”
My hand rises to my forehead once more. Alexander, Why me?
And in short, despite taking the long way to get there, I blame Reno. And his undeniable urge to be entertained. But good is relative and I think somewhere along the lines I wish I’d have just let it all go.
Tseng looks at me for a decent explanation and I can only respond with an irritated, “Boredom.”
He speaks the thought I kept to myself, “Alexander, why me?”
It had betrayal, action, dragons, goats, bears, penguins, money! It’s a good story - End
