“I don´t like keeping secrets from Magnus,” said Will softly applying disinfection on the small scratch wound on Druitt´s shoulder.
Druitt didn´t even flinch which made Will wonder if he was in his “safe-mode” as he liked to call it. The creature that nearly killed them all was still inside the infamous killer, but he assured Will he can control it, for now.
He visited Will few weeks after the incident, standing in his room blood dripping on the brown carpet. When Will jumped out of bed to call Magnus he stopped him pleading not to tell her. Druitt wanted defeat his inner demon, to be again the man she fell in love with. But for that, he needed Will.
Will still wasn´t sure why he believed him, but the sad look Magnus was carrying with her could be the reason. He may not agree with her choice, but he wanted her to be happy.
“It is for her own good. And you know exactly like I do, that Helen has her own secrets,” Druitt said looking out of the window in the dark night.
Will nodded.
He knew that, knew that there are things he possibly couldn´t understand, that she is trying to protect him.
There, in the beginning, he wanted her honesty, now he knew that it was impossible.
Keeping secrets made us who we are, flawed.
Druitt didn´t tell him where are those scratches from. Will didn´t tell him that his arms were those in which Magnus found solace after their tragic goodbye and she? She had more secrets than they both could count.
Helen was her own secret, hiding from the world, incapable of admitting her human nature, her love for a murdered, and her desire for her protégé even to herself.
Everyone has secrets, and especially in the place where past wasn´t such a long-ago.
