The Following Things Bug Me:

- Milwaukee Brewer Ryan Braun.  To paraphrase one of London's ex-bfs, "jeez, I hate that guy."
- Women who breast feed their babies on the landing at the top of the stairs outside at my office.  I know you're looking for help, but do you really think a mental health clinic is the best place to whip out a boob and feed ( Read more... )

Wow, that's good. ploaf May 19 2009, 18:29:18 UTC
Yeah, that'd bug me, too.

MGK put themselves in a bad position there. "Rosalita" is a concert-ender. After that song, I swear I can hear the Boss say, "thank you, goodnight!"

When you play a concert-ender as great as "Rosalita," a station has only a few options:

1. Go to commerical. Let your listening audience have the radio equivalent of a post-coital cigarette. (You know, windows rolled down, big sigh, regain your composure, see if you have any voice left, and slow down to within 25mph of speed limit.)

2. Go really low-key. If you're going to follow "Rosalita" up with something, it has to be a slow, intimate song. Maybe you can get away with Elton John's "Someone Saved My Life Tonight." Maybe.

3. Go off the air.

Please note there is no acceptable "Supertramp Option." I'm not a big Zepplin fan, but if you're going to try and follow "Rosalita" with Zepplin, as you noted, synthesizers should be checked at the door.

*Obviously, "Rosalita" is a particular favorite of mine. I have it programmed into my iPod workout mix to coincide with the last 7 minutes of my cardio workout. It makes me want to hop off the machine and leave the pedals spinning.

I like your options, especially "go off the air." I think if the station was ever going to sign off (like what happened to dear, departed WDRE in the mid 90s), they should close it down with a live recording of Rosalita.

PS - you know I love "Someone Saved My Life Tonight!" As a wise woman once said, that's my JAM.

I wish I remembered exactly who that wise woman was. Further context could only make that story funnier.

What do y'all have against Supertramp? I couldn't love Supertramp more if I were threatened.

The best description of Zepplin I've heard was from P-done. He compared them to an ingredient; "you know it's in everything, you're glad it's around, but you don't want it by itself."

Personally, there are a few songs I like, but I'm not a big Zepplin fan. Although, I did really like the use of the "Black Dog" cover for pre-show.

It was really hard for me to allow that but Colucci had this whole "dog" songs thing happening and I couldn't not. But he and I had a chat about Zeppelin and how I don't like them.
