lalalaini. This girl has been one of my best friends since I was 16; we met through a Blur mailing list, had our first official in-person meetup to see Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels at the Rotunda, and the rest is history. We had many grand adventures (like the time we drove to Philadelphia on a whim because we were both bored), many zany misadventures (including, but not limited to, getting lost by the Post Office Museum in D.C. a million times, and taking biscuits from Popeye's into the theater when we saw 28 Days Later), and even more amazingly fun times just spent hanging out, watching weird videos online or eating at the Paper Moon Diner or something. She got me into about 80% of the music that I listen to today.
Laini passed away yesterday. I'm heartbroken, and not just because I have lost one of my very best friends; but because someone so amazingly vibrant, and funny, and warm and smart and just all-around unbelievably awesome is no longer in this world. She was one of the most creative people I knew; one of the kindest; one of the very, very best. I can't even begin to express how much I am going to miss her, and how much of an impact she had on my life. I am just so happy that I was able to know this wonderful person.
The Dandy Warhols, Modest Mouse, "My spoon is too big!", Paper Moon, SMOOT!, atomic hipster haircuts...I will never be able to hear or see these things again without thinking of my friend. She was only 29.
Laini, I love you and I will miss you so very, very much.
(The pic is from January 2004; a drunken night in Brooklyn after seeing the Yeah Yeah Yeah's in NYC. We made pierogis with Damien and JP, drank a ton of beer, and took a million silly pictures. It was one of the most fun times I've ever had.)
