I googled "mass intentions" because I was curious myself, and I found this:
"...masses can be offered for specific purposes--for example, a good harvest or protection from a storm or for peace in the world--or individuals, either living or dead--someone's deceased parent or child or spouse, for example. Most masses, in fact, fit in this category. People can ask that a mass be said for any of these purposes. Usually this involves a stipend (a small payment) for the remembrance.
This is what the "mass intention" is; it's who or what is being especially remembered in that particular mass."
