Gwen flushed at the underlying suggestion. Yes, Pam was a knock-out, but Gwen prefered her partners to be male. Well, there was that one time with that girl possessed by the gaseous alien...

Gwen pushed off from the wall, eager to keep her mind on other things, and started her lap.

Pam chuckled lightly to herself amused by Gwen's reaction to her, before diving prettily into the water, beginning her work out with strong graceful strokes, turning her head to breathe on every third stroke.

She hadn't known how to swim when she was still alive, it not being proper for women of her time and stature to have such a skill, so it was a bit of a learning curve the first time she had swam the other night when she realized she had to add breathing to her swimming. Luckily she had figured out the mechanics of it while she was alone and before she had drowned.

Gwen paused at the other end of the pool, feeling a bit awkward about the whole situation. "You're not from Cardiff, are you? I'm just curious to know how far this phenomena has spread." She pressed her back against the wall, resting her elbows on the lip of the pool, casually. Ever the police woman, Gwen was. She just couldn't resist a good mystery.

She kicked her legs, idly, to keep the strain off her shoulders. Her eyes stared off into the distance, unfocused, as she recalled her last night in the Cardiff bay.

"Cardiff?" she repeated, when Gwen took advantage of her need to break for air, a sensation she was still not used too, to ask a question. She paddled closer to the other woman so they didn't have to yell across the pool and mimicked her pose against the wall. "No, I haven't been to Wales in centuries," she answered truthfully. "I was living in Louisiana before being brought here. But I was from England originally," she revealed since there was no trace of an accent in her voice.

Centuries? Was this girl another immortal like Jack, or something else entirely? "I see..." Gwen shot Pam a side-long glance. "How long have you been here?-- I'm sorry. I sound like I'm interrogating you." She smiled softly, hoping Pam wouldn't take offense to her curiosity. "I used to be a police officer. I guess the habits you form on the force never really leave you."

Pam smiled back but there was a wryness to her grin. If Gwen thought this was an interrogation, it was certainly the nicest one she had ever been too. There was usually far less bathing suits, and much more screaming of her enemies when Pam was on interrogation duty.

"A woman in uniform," Pam said tilting her speculatively, the grin not leaving her lips. "I've been here about a week I suppose," she answered Gwen's question, before turning the questions around on the other woman. Dear Abby always said it was polite to return interest in another when having a conversation. "What about you? How long have you been here, and why did you leave the force? I've always enjoyed positions of power myself." And it was true, as Eric's second in command, there were few she had to answer to and many that had to listen to her, and she liked it that way.

After his latest encounter with Jareth, Handy felt like nothing so much as storming up to Rose's room, pounding on the door, and demanding to know what she thought she'd been doing when she decided to go make a snowman with the hotel's resident evil bastard. He had enough of a head left on his shoulders, though, to know that doing so was probably not the best way to get back on her good side, so instead he'd just gone to his own room and sulked for a time ( ... )

A genuine smile passed over Gwen's face. She was used to being hit on while on patrol, but it still amused her. She shrugged, "A day or two. Time tends to blur when you're curled up in bed, in denial. I left the force to join Torchwood. It's a sort of...er...special ops."

Gwen looked up at the sound of the door being opened. Her jaw dropped. Meooow! She fidgeted with her wet fringe a bit before greeting the tall, lean, absolutely scrumptious, man. "Hello...Popular night for a swim, I guess."

Pam too looked up when she realized they were no longer alone. Her eyes raked over the newcomer speculatively, while he wasn't bad looking per say, she had a soft for the nerdy look, just look at Stan from Texas, he was a bit scrawny for her taste. He looked like she would have broken him in two in her pre-hotel life. And by the crutch he was currently leaning on, her assumptions weren't far off.

"Hello," she greeted, flipping her long blonde hair over one shoulder in the perfection of poised boredom.

Handy felt like he'd just been put on display, especially with the way the blonde was openly looking him over. Not entirely comfortable with that, he stepped further into the room nonetheless. "Guess it is," he agreed, sitting carefully on the edge of the pool and putting his feet in without taking the towel off yet. "I don't think I've ever seen anyone else using this place."

He gave the dark-haired woman a somewhat scrutinizing look, trying to remember where he knew her from. When she'd spoken her accent had sounded more than a little bit Welsh--and that clinched it. "Gwen Cooper!" he exclaimed, beaming at having remembered. "That's right, Gwen Cooper with Torchwood. We met on the video chat. I'm the Doctor, by the way," he added, remembering the need to introduce himself to the other woman. "Well, one of him." Now that the real other Doctor was back, he didn't expect to get away with pretending he was the only one.

Gwen's brow furrowed, "Video chat?" She canted her head to one side, to emphasize her confusion. "I think I came from a time before we met, but it's a pleasure to meet you." She flipped over and rested her cheek on the edge, her eyes never leaving Handy. "You know Jack, I take it."

Pam considered asking him just what he was a doctor of, but then decided she didn't really care enough to make the effort. Just as the rest of their conversation didn't interest her either, finding her cuticles more worthy of her attention as she listened with half an ear in just case something they said caught her interest.

That Gwen was from before his time was a bit of a disappointment, but then, they hadn't really done more than exchange a few words at the time. And, too, it was refreshing to meet someone who didn't seem to have an issue with the idea of having come from different times. One less thing to explain. "Ah, so before the, uhm..." he didn't really want to go into it, "saving the world thing. And yeah, you could say I know Jack. Have you worked for Torchwood long?" He was very interested, now that he had a chance to talk to someone on Jack's team outside a time of crisis. There'd been Owen, of course, but he hadn't got the impression that Owen was actually that interested in talking to him.

He glanced at the blonde woman, who was looking decidedly uninterested and frowned a little. "Sorry," he said, "Did I interrupt something? And I don't think I caught your name...?"

Again, she smiled. "A year, give or take. I was just saying, earlier, that I left the Cardiff police to work for Jack. Weasled my way into the group, I did. Now he's stuck with me."

Gwen looked over her shoulder at Pam, catching the look of boredom on her lovely face.

"It is because I never said it," she replied, looking up at the Doctor from under her long eyelashes.

"I am Pam, I am new here," she finally said with a sigh, feeling like that was the current relevant information, before going back to inspect her French manicure. There was a chip on her left ring finger, she would have to fix that.

Handy swished his feet in the water, not quite ready to take off the towel, even if he'd be getting in the water where less of him would be easily visible. His curiosity was aroused by this Pam's reticence--the fact that she was new here and still apparently bored by the situation was something of a puzzle--but he was also curious about Gwen, and unlike Pam, she actually seemed interested in the conversation.

"Best way to join any organization," he said, grinning. "Just don't take no for an answer." He swished his feet some more before thinking of something. "You do know Jack is here, right?" he asked, pausing in his movements. He'd assumed she did, but it never did to assume things like that.
