Barney smiled at that. Of course he knew he was going to win. He was awesome. "You know, you can blame it on beginner's luck, but I blame it on being awesome." He said, as he scooped up the cards and started shuffling up.

He was going to continue to badger her just a bit for as long as he could keep winning. Which of course, was right until the end, because Barney Stinson could. Not. Be. Stopped!

Kara rolled her eyes. He wasn't even subtle about his arrogance. It was kind of disgusting, and at the same time, kind of hot. "You keep telling yourself that," she told him, a bit of her signature cockiness coming back in her tone.

"Gladly!" He said, as he gave the cards a few more shuffles before he dealt out the next hand. He would have almost offered the cut, but he never played with octagonal shaped cards, so how would he know about cheating?

She really didn't care about the cut. He'd won the first hand. She'd sweep the rest. As awesome as he thought he was, she was better. Or, at least, she had a hell of a lot of experience on him. She perused her dealt hand with satisfaction, though it didn't show on her face. She could work with this.

She paused to pour herself another glass of ambrosia to supplement the shots she'd just taken. Come on, she wasn't just going to be drinking when she'd lost.

Barney looked at his hand, and nodded. "I'll check." He said, not sure his hand was mediocre enough to check on, but worst case scenario, Barney would be bluffing at that point, and he was good at bluffing people.

He nodded appreciatively at the fact that Kara was drinking more, it helped make his endgame a possibility faster.

Kara arched an eyebrow; she wouldn't put it past this guy to be bluffing on the check, but she also had a pretty kickass hand. "All right. Two shots," she told him. And she knew she was risking the check-raise, but she felt pretty confident at this point.

Confident or cocky. Sometimes it was a blurry line.

Barney raised an eyebrow and looked at his hand again. He was going to let her sweat a little, but he'd.. nah. Playing it smart was never his forte. Especially since he'd had a drink or two first. "Alright, let's make it 3 shots instead of two." He said, smirking. The classic check-raise was truly the play of a master, and that's what Barney (thought he) was.

"I'll see that," she responded, not outwardly reacting to his raise. Playing it cool. He'd won the first hand, and yeah, that'd pissed her off, but she'd end up wiping the table with him (sans his clothing) by the end, she was sure. Kara Thrace did not lose to someone who'd never played the godsdamned game before.

Barney looked down at his hand and tossed a card aside before looking at Kara. "You need any new cards?" He said, wanting to make sure he dealt in order.

He was planning on taking a drink after this hand, win or lose, because it wasn't fun when only person was drinking. He wasn't on any sort of wagon.

She looked at her hand, studying it for several moments, feigning like she had to think about it. Finally, she shook her head. "Nah, I'm good," she told him, casually. Kickass may have been in her hand, but she'd be damned if it was going to be on her face.

Barney nodded, and drew a new card to replace the one he'd pitched. It didn't help his hand any and he realized he was stuck with a fairly mediocre hand. Not to mention the fact that Kara had kept her hand and it was all sorts of bad.

He didn't let it show though, and he nodded. "I'll check this time again." He said, hoping she'd figure there was another check-raise coming, and he might be able to get out of this one alive, without folding, since his ego almost wouldn't let him concede.

He'd only traded in one card, so it was quite possible he had a pretty decent hand and was bluffing with the check again. Not as decent a hand as hers was, but decent enough.

Still.

"Raise you one more," she told him, calmly. Hey, she kind of wanted to see this one drunk.

Barney stared at his cards. He knew it wasn't that good, and he knew it was a TERRIBLE idea. All common sense said that he was supposed to set his hand down, and take his three shots.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRR he could call her bet and let his beginner's luck make her hand suck all of a sudden. It wasn't like Barney knew how to back down.

"I'll call!"
