I thought we were past this...

Who: Alec
Where: Med Lab (can be occupied or no).
When: His arrival.
What: Not going down without a fight, this time.

The first things Alec became aware of when he woke were the smell of antiseptic and the sound of machines. He bit back a curse and didn't bother to open his eyes yet. He'd told Normal he was fine after the -- okay, admittedly brutal -- ass kicking he'd taken in the cage fight. A hospital was a dangerous place for a transgenic. All it would take was one blood test to send things into a clusterfuck of epic proportions. Alec would heal, he knew he would, and faster than any human had a right to.

His boss hadn't seemed convinced at the time, but even so, Alec knew good and damn well he'd gone to sleep in his own bed. It just wasn't possible that Normal got the drop on him, even half beat to hell and zonked out on heavy duty pain meds. He'd still have noticed being moved to the freaking hospital. Right?

When he forced his eyes open and looked around, his stomach dropped and his breath froze in his chest. The high tech equipment he could see all around him twigged a lot of painful memories buried at the back of his skull and a look down at himself found him dressed in his old fatigues... it wasn't a hospital. It was much, much worse than a hospital.

Manticore.

He rolled off the exam table and got to his feet, thanking whatever weird sky thing who was listening that he was not restrained. The last time he'd been brought back for reprogramming... he shuddered, swallowing hard. Not this time. No brain fucking for him. He'd get out or he'd make them kill him.

A quick search of the immediate area produced nothing more useful than a scalpel. He took it anyway. It wasn't the world's greatest weapon, but he'd take what he could get at the moment. He was trained in a variety of ways to kill a man without weapons, of course, but none of the Manticore guards were that easy. And, if he ran into a knot of those X7's, he could kiss his ass goodbye, weapon or no weapon.

Alec eased the door open a crack, peering out around it and sliding out through the smallest opening possible. A long, carpeted hallway stretched out in front of him. His brain skipped a beat. Carpet? This was the weirdest military installation he'd ever been inside. And he'd been inside a few.

Either way, it didn't matter. He was getting out. Alec started down the hall, walking to keep the wall as much as his back as he could. So far, so good...
