Grissom was taking his time to move down the hallway of the third floor. His flashlight was out, though really not needed, due to the ample lighting, but Grissom was a man of habit.

Twisting his hand slightly, to see the numbered key, Grissom looked at the closest door and continued on. Sooner or later, he was sure to run out of numbers.

Just as he reached the door for 309, a sound caught his attention and Grissom turned, aiming the flashlight down the hall and wincing, to see who - or what - was coming.

Handy spotted the person ahead of him and halted in the middle of the hall, giving him a wary look. For once, he'd found someone who looked human - but this time it was someone he didn't know.

"Who is that?" he demanded loudly.

Grissom opened his mouth and promptly closed it. Stepping back from the door, he lowered the flashlight and nodded. "Gil Grissom," he called out, matching the stranger's volume. "Las Vegas Crime Lab."

...Crime Lab, hmm - Crime Lab!

Wait, no, that meant nothing to him.

"You need to get back to your room," said Handy, stepping closer. Of course, then it occurred to him that since the hotel was on the attack, their rooms probably weren't safe. "No," he said. "Get outside and get as far away as you can! They're coming."

When he mentioned getting into the room, Grissom looked at the door. When he immediately rescinded the warning, Grissom raised an eyebrow and looked back to his new... friend. "Well," he started, taking a step toward the man, "I would, but my car has gone missing."

He gave the man a once-over, then a second. "What happened to you?" he asked, noticing just how wet the man was.

"I was attacked," replied Handy promptly and vaguely. "That's not what's important now. You need to listen - they're taking over the hotel! You need to get out, now!"

He stepped in closer, urgency written in his stance.

Grissom wasn't sure if he should follow or not. Raising his eyebrow again, Grissom pointed to the man with his flashlight. "Are you Jack's friend?" he asked, unsure if that question would set the man off or not. But, based on the reactions, it made the most sense that this was the missing man.

Handy looked pained. "Jack's dead," he said, by now having come to that conclusion rather than gone on wondering what had happened to the formal immortal.

Suspiciously, he asked, "Why would you ask me that?"

Dead? He seemed rather alive when they'd spoken. Quickly going over the message Jack had left in his head, Grissom moved to reach for his phone, but raised both hands, slowly reaching into the pocket of his vest. "I spoke to a man named Jack.. maybe half an hour ago."

Jack hadn't told him not to mention his name if Grissom happened across the man. He didn't really tell him much of anything, of course. Still, Grissom was fairly certain this was the man in question.

"You're... the doctor?" he asked, nodding slightly.

The raising of the arms, the reaching into the pocket, the lies about poor Jack, the knowing of his name - Handy's beleaguered mind immediately went on alert and his hand went to his own inside jacket pocket at lightning speed. He whipped out his sonic screwdriver, pointing it at the other man's face. It couldn't do any real harm, of course, but with any luck this creature of the Master's wouldn't know that.

"Don't move," he hissed angrily, taking a step back. "I know what you are!"

Grissom raised his hands, flashlight in one and cell phone in the other. "I can show you my ID," he offered in a rather calm tone, under the circumstances. His eyes, of course, were on the device in the Doctor's hand. it didn't seem like anything more than a really fancy flashlight, but he wasn't in the mood to take any chances.

And, of course, his field kit was sitting next to the door; the service pistol sitting in the lower compartment.

"Can I ask you a question?" he asked, wishing he had the skill to send a text message or something to that Jack fellow, letting him know his friend had been found. "What is it you think I am?"

Handy kept taking slow steps backward, eyes and screwdriver trained on the threat. He shook his head at the offer to see ID - he could produce fake ID of his own at a moment's notice, so little scraps of paper and plastic with names and photos on them meant little to him.

His brow furrowed in response to the question, and he paused, confused. "You work for the Master," he said after a moment, sounding just a little unsure. Okay, so he'd been bluffing. He didn't actually know what this man was.

Grissom knew enough not to charge the man, but with every step the Doctor took backwards, Grissom took one forward, his hands still raised. "No, I work for the Las Vegas Crime Lab."

"Maybe the man whose face you stole used to," snapped Handy, taking a more hasty step backward. He wanted more distance between them - and he chanced a glance over his shoulder, checking how far he was from the nearest stairwell.

Grissom shook his head. The Doctor was backing up faster than he could keep in pace. "It's the only face I've ever had," Grissom replied, starting to wonder just what the man had gotten into. "Did you take anything? Pills?" Grissom asked.

The man seemed to be having some sort of trip, though Grissom couldn't be sure on first glance. It definitely wasn't alcohol-related, that much he knew.

Handy shook his head vehemently. "Tell me what you're planning," he said firmly gesturing with the screwdriver to remind the other man who was in charge. He ignored the question about pills - why would he ask that? It made no sense.
