Elphie opened her eyes. She was in Ford's room, in his bed. It felt wrong. She was curled up next to him... his arm was over her, but she could have sworn she had just been in the cafe hall. She had thrown the coffee and the cake against the wall and was going to see Jack.

The room spun and her stomach threatened to empty itself.

Deciding it was just a dream, she snuggled closer to the sleeping alien and fell back asleep.

It was the movement that woke Ford.

His eyes slowly fluttered open... and then he shot backwards off the bed like he'd been scalded, onto the floor with a resounding thump.

"Zarking farquads!" he exclaimed.

Elphie woke with a start and jumped off the bed in the other direction as her mind suddenly yelled WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!! "CAFE!" was the only thing she managed to yell out.

"Why do you want to go to the cafe in the middle of the night?" Ford asked anxiously, starting to think he'd dreamed the past week or so.

"What? I... How did I get here?" she asked in consternation. "I wasn't here a moment ago..." Then her stomach reeled again and she ran to the bathroom to get sick in the toilet instead of all over Ford's floor.

"I don't..."

He was cut off when she escaped to the bathroom. He heard the distinct sound of retching.

"Are you...?"

He ventured to the bathroom door.

"Are you sick from what you ate in the cafe?" he asked.

She finished emptying her stomach of emptyness and flushed. She stayed kneeling on the floor in front of the toilet bowl. "The black forest cake? I only had one bite. You were there..."

"That.... was days ago," Ford told her. "Maybe over a week. Maybe more. It's hard to tell here."

He frowned.

"Your room was empty," he informed her, as though she'd emptied it.

"Days?" she asked bewildered.

She snorted at his other comment. "That's because we burned all my stuff. I haven't been to my room since the... exorcism..." She frowned. "The only things I even had were the two dresses in your wardrobe..."

Her stomach turned again and she dry heaved into the toilet.

"They were gone first. That's why I even went to your room," he told her as though she should have guessed as much.

"But..." Elphie sat against the wall, the gears in her head turning.

The cake was days ago... and she woke up in Ford's bed. She had been goign to see Jack and she woke up in Ford's bed... and Ford and she weren't exactly friends right now... Her dresses were gone...

"Ford... did I... did I disappear?"

"I couldn't find you," Ford said. "And I'm sure I looked the hardest."

He approached the bed cautiously.

"I'm sure I must have checked here at some point," told her, eyeing it suspiciously.

"I'm not doubting you... I have no recollection of coming her. Last thing I remember was the cake"

She didn't mention she had thrown it at the wall along with two cups of coffee. That would be a long explanation.

"Oh."

He glanced around uncomfortably.

"Well. Um. Maybe you should stay for a bit, then."

She turned on the faucet and tested the water, carefully not looking at him. When she didn't melt, she rinsed the sour out of her mouth and then swallowed a few handfuls of the cool liquid.

"If... if that's OK with you."

She looked at the bed. "Sorry I scared you... I didn't really have much of a choice as to where I woke up I suppose..."

Ford shrugged like everything was cool and froody and, you know, it wasn't a big deal because clearly he always woke up by shooting backwards out of bed onto the floor.

"I said it because it's okay with me," Ford told her. "You do that human thing where you ask questions you already know the answer to."
