Garak carefully removed his recitation mask and set it gently back in its box, closing it with a soft snap. He had come to this room often seeking connection to Oralius to no avail. Perhaps without a guide, without Astraea, that connection simply could not be made. He refused to believe that he was held somewhere that even a goddess could be held at bay. It was funny how his stubbornness had taken different channels since the war.

Despite his failure with the ritual, he remained seated in the hushed room. With the vaulted ceiling and rows upon rows of pews and religious artifacts, it was the least claustrophobia inducing space in the hotel. Quiet was something he had come to value, and solitude something he had experienced for so long it felt almost a natural state. He thought he might be slowly coming to terms with his situation, acceptance easier knowing that his last act for Cardassia was truly useful. He focused on his slow, even breaths and stilled his mind so that his time there wouldn't be a complete wash.
