The Doctor pushed open the door to the Bar and then stopped dead- this was new! He'd done a fair bit of wandering around but never ended up here before. As he glanced around him, he soon realised why the Hotel had seen fit to steer him this way. Donna. No thanks very much, he thought as he turned away, then something about the way she was sitting made him stop and turn back.
Walking towards her he stopped when he was a few feet away, "Donna," he murmured, then waited for her to respond.
Donna was withdrawn from her thoughts by the sound of a familiar voice. She turned her head and looked at the man standing next to her.Great she thought.
Sighing she looked back to her drink and said "If you've come here to lecture me about my 'behaviour' earlier you can save your breathe..."
The Doctor watched quietly as she turned away from him. "Me? Lecture? Wouldn't have thought so. All I want is a quiet life... and the odd plate of chips," he said, looking hopefully up and down the length of the bar.
Donna smiled at The Doctor's comment about chips. "Now you mention it I'm feelin slightly peckish...not thristy" She pushed the drink aside. "You can sit down if you want I'm not gonna bite your head off no matter how peckish I am". She smiled at her own comment, first time she'd done so all day without forcing it.
There was a slight pause. "You know you said you wanted quiet life? Well do you not like being adventurous?" She turned to look at him waiting for his response
"You and me both," the Doctor said, sighing loudly when she mentioned feeling hungry. "The only thing this place seems interested in providing me with lately's a shovel."
"Thank you ," he said, settling himself on the bar stool. Adventurous, he shook his head. "Used to be once, not so much these days. I just keep moving on," a sad note crept into his voice, just moving on, that was all the Time War had left him with, the means to move on.
Donna smiled when he sat down, it'd been awhile since she spoke to someone new.
"Moving on? Don't you ever feel like you wanna stop and settle for awhile?" She was curious to wonder why the prospect of being adventurous wasn't appealing to him...
"Yep. We lost... everyone lost," the Doctor shrugged, then reached out and took hold of a bowl that had been left there. "Nuts?" He enquired, grabbing a handful and then pushing it towards her.
"Did he say he was the last?" If he hadn't mentioned the war, then it was unlikely he'd told her that. "He's here y'know," he said then glanced towards her, curious if she knew and more to the point, if she had seen him.
Shocked. Shocked was a pretty dam good word to describe how Donna was feeling after everything he'd just told her. Even the offer of nuts wasn't gonna put off this conversation...
"Ok..." She paused "Oh my god...I don't know what to say....I'm sorry I guess..."
All those people.... She took the glass of wine and started to gulp it down but before she had a chance to finish The Doctors last sentance hit her. Her eyes growing wide.
Relieved at her sudden change of subject, he followed it with enthusiasm. "Yep, he's here all right- or they were. According to some of the stuff on the network, quite a few have vanished at the same time."
Donna stood from her seat demanding answers to the whereabouts of her best friend "Well where is he? where did you last see him? is he alright? please tell me hes alright....why the hell hasn't contacted me...oh I'm gonna kill that time boy when I find him"
She grabbed The Doctor by the shoulders and turned him to face her "Can you take me to where you last saw him?" She said with great urgency within her voice.
"Well I don't know that going to the last place I saw him would be much use. Could try his room though." Probably best to presume she meant the Time Lord him and not the human version for now. The fact that she hadn't reacted to his comment about they rather than him, suggested she probably wasn't aware of the duplication.
"Could do...but whens it like him to stay in one place long enough for me to get to him.." She yawned "...and right now running around after him isn't exactly appealing"
"Wait" She paused replaying The Doctors words over in her head "They were?" She asked unsure of what he actually ment
"Mmm," he murmured, now get out of that one! "apparently there's two of 'em... sort of." So it didn't look like her timeline included the human version then. "It's probably better if he explains, I wasn't there so I don't know any real details."
Taking another handful of nuts he crunched for several seconds, then added, "But if you happen to collide with the um... human one, he's usually carrying a crutch. Last thing I heard he was breaking down doors trying to work out who was missing... well more following Jack, while he sorted the doors."
No thanks very much, he thought as he turned away, then something about the way she was sitting made him stop and turn back.

"Didn't he tell you about the Time War?" Perhaps he hadn't, being a step away from events made them less yours somehow.
