Baby 4.1: 12 weeks

How your baby's growing:

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.

Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

How I'm feeling: Sick days are becoming a little more regular - I'll have one sick day, followed by 1-2 good days, followed by another sick day. Obviously I'd prefer I don't have ANY sick days, but at least if there's a pattern then I can plan with Orion when I'll need extra help and when I can get more done on my own.

Oddly, I've had a problem with depression this week too - yesterday I was sick, but more than just that I was severely depressed all day for no good reason. And today, I'm totally fine. It's so weird, and just as problematic as being physically sick. Zofran doesn't have any psychological side effects, so I'm confused. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it next week.

Amusingly, Rigel has picked upon my constant retching and has begun imitating me. He handed me a pair of his sister's underwear (clean thankfully) and said "BLEH" with his tongue sticking out and everything - several times in a row so I wouldn't miss his meaning. Later, I had found an old nasty bottle in his room and really did retch, and he came running in and said "Mommy, where's the BLEH?"

Oh, and today the girls were totally fawning over my belly when I picked them up from school. I was a little bloated, but really? I've got six months til this kid is born - it's too early to start belly rubs!
