First prenatal appointment

I know I've sucked at updating. I swear I've had the energy of a narcoleptic sloth. NEEDS. MOAR. SLEEP. But I really do want to chronicle things like this, so I'll prop my eyelids open and get it written.

Oh, and for those who want to know but don't want the sticky details, it's official: there really is only one this time. :p

So, I kind of got lost on my way up there, and I was terrified they'd cancel my appointment, but they were really nice about it and fit me in anyways. Filled out the paperwork, and it was kind of hard to figure out how to convey the appropriate information in the itty bitty blanks they gave. So, I wrote in what I could and filled out a records request form.

My doctor was really nice. All I knew ahead of time was that she was a woman, and she turned out to be exactly what I'd hoped for. She's young (I swear she can't be over 40), and she was very patient and compassionate as I explained everything that happened in my last pregnancy. I was frank in that I really am freaked out by this whole thing, my excitement notwithstanding. She told me that we could put me on progesterone shots starting at 16 weeks; there were no downsides other than the fact that it's a pain to have to take shots every day. I'll have to think about that one. The part I'm really scared about is the birth, specifically, of another c-section. I told her up front that I wanted to have a VBAC, and she said that was a goal we could work towards. I feel like my needs are going to be heard and considered, and that is SO important.

She tried to do an ultrasound there in the office, but my uterus was kind of tilted back so I had to go to the imaging lab for a vaginal one. (Joy.) And I saw the baby! Of course, it didn't look like a baby, just a little blob with an eyeball or whatever, but it looked like what's in the "pregnancy week by week" books, hehe. And I heard the heartbeat too. :) I was texting with Orion during the ultrasound, and he was VERY relieved when there was only one baby in there. :)

Overall, things seem to be normal and healthy. My morning sickness is NOTHING like it was last time. Nothing like it. It's heaven. Well, I mean, I'm still a bit nauseous and that's not great, but I seriously haven't thrown up once, and at this point last time I had already been IV'd. Soon as I can figure out how to actually be a good mom and get stuff done around the house while I'm so dang tired, I'm in good shape.
