Hey, dames and dudes! I haven't posted on here in ages. Since I moved in August I either haven't had the internet set up at my place, then I didn't know what to update with, and then the internet was gone again. So, hey, updates!
Ollie is 5 and just finished up pre-k, and next year he is changing schools to go to the special education class across town. The cool thing about that, and the reason for it, is because it is the "autistic kindergarten" where the teacher has gotten every grant in the book for these kids, and has been working with kids on the spectrum for ages. She's patient, she's friendly, and she understands them. Excellent. Just this school year Ollie has gone from mumbling and barely communicating to having verbal exchanges, writing his own name (and the names of his friends in class!), learning to read some, and now he's also completely toilet trained. Thought it would never happen! He has made amazing progress. He also looks like a perfectly nordic little gent- stick thin, blonde hair, and bright blue eyes that are staring at everything at once, taking things in.
Delilah is still a phenomenal ball of energy and is clever as hell. She's talking, counting, and trying very very hard to sing the alphabet song with Ollie and I. She's going to be 2 on Independence Day, and I don't remember what this place was like without her. She's totally different looking than the rest of the kids, with dark hair and serious olive green eyes. She sort of favors my sister this way, except that my sister always has a super dark tan these days.
Lucy just turned 1 at the end of May. She isn't walking unassisted yet, but she could if she wanted. She has been swarming this place for ages crawling like a pirate with a peg leg, and bear crawling, and every weird variation there is for movement save for walking. She is also almost as big as Delilah, and is as stout and hearty as my favorite beer. Seriously, she's just a bit shorter than Delilah but bigger. They probably weigh the same, easily. She's a blonde, hazel eyed little chunk of enthusiasm that is always laughing and clapping and trying to eat your feet.
Adam and I are.. eh. I'll talk about that some other time. I'm staying at home with the kids while he works, and I spend the majority of the time at home alone with them. I get overwhelmed sometimes, but I am really enjoying the time with them.
Today I am inspired, though! Between running around and acting like a dinosaur, making chocolate milk, and policing what goes into Lucy's mouth (no, not the domino. get that out. no, not the book, we read those. no, honey, not your brother's shoe. oh dear.) I am crafting. Or, well, trying to. I've been really bored of what our house looked like, and wanting to go get some bright, pretty paint and revamping it. But alas! Paint costs money! And we just don't have it right now. So I am changing things up. Making it less dark.
Yesterday, I moved around almost all the furniture in the living room/dining room area. Switching things around, and I even made some time to go paint the dvd shelves. Ok, we actually have a bookshelf that's been chock full of dvds, and then there's a pair of dvd shelves that are tallish. Not to mention the other bookshelf that is full of vhs, and the box in the basement full of tapes too. I am on a mission to make them cute! So far I've got two shelves painted, two to go. Also have the old tv stand to paint and revamp. It's basically a huge, upright rectangle box with shelves on the open side. 2/3rds of the space is under the shelf for the tv, and I am going to add a curtain to hide that area so the kids have one more place to squirrel away and play. The rest of it will be organized and crafts and toys will be there, with all the paints and things they can't have access to on the higher shelves.
I'm excited! I'm also fixing up some boring paper lanterns I've had for ages. They're plain yellow paper, which is my favorite color, but... they're a little boring. So I'm working on getting circles drawn on brown cardboard paper, then watercolored, and then cut out and arranged on the paper lanterns in a fishscale pattern. Very excited to get that finished- I've got three lanterns, in graduated sizes. I think it'll really kick ass when they're done.
I've also got a few knitting/crocheting things in the mix. Bright, sunny things that will hopefully look really nice around here and liven it up. I've got a round blanket for Lucy with a big orange and white flower in the middle, and radiating rings of orange and blue and green, separated by rows of yellow. Sounds weird but it looks really fun. I'm enjoying it.
Whooo, that is a long entry. Anyway, uh, the tl;dr version- kids are fine, happy, and healthy. I'm changing up the house so that I don't go insane. Ramble ramble ramble. The end.
