entry fifteen - taking a grudge and throwing a personal opinion at it.

Some of the behaviour on board this boat dismays me.

Judas, who is this man who everyone seems to be denegrating your belief in? I've never heard of him and don't quite understand the fuss. I do know, however, that nobody in my city would mess with another man's belief. Of course, that's probably due to the high liklihood that atheism was a very ( Read more... )

I find myself agreeing. Weapon use without proper training is extremely dangerous; you make a fair point here, Mister-?

Even with proper training, if people cannot keep track of their weapons and allow them to get into the wrong hands, it is just as dangerous.

And it's Captain. Captain Swing.

Proper training should cover the handling of one's weapon. I understand the necessity most humans feel for having weapons, but it is not something I am always comfortable with.

Commander T'Pol.

I understand the necessity in circumstances other than these; in emergencies, when a police force literally has no other option, but I do not find those circumstances to be part of day to day existence here. Tell me, if you are unarmed and a warden, do you find any difficulty in enforcing your authority on your inmate? Or at least, any difficulty which would be helped by carrying a weapon?

Pleasure to meet you, Commander.

Not with my inmate. There have been situations in the past few months that I have felt required a phaser, but I expect those instances to be exceptions, rather than rules.

Ironically. He should be doing the same thing. As commander > captain in the watch. pleasesmirk November 10 2009, 19:16:01 UTC
Were those situations in dealing with inmates or with... outside forces?

I see. I think exceptions and emergency situations should be taken into account, but this ship seems to be practically flooded with weapons.

Nothing like adding to the confusion. with_discipline November 10 2009, 19:33:09 UTC
Indeed. I came to accept the use of force necessary on the Enterprise, but as you say, here there is a lack of training that I find - peculiar.

Yes, but I presume you are a...soldier? of some kind?

It does concern me, yes.

I served as Science and First Officer aboard an Earth starship. You were a police officer?

Something similar, then. I was, yes. Well, a watchman, but that seems a term peculiar to my city, so a police officer, yes.

I believe the term has been used in Earth's history; such labels do not frequently hold true between worlds.

Probably, yes. I just came to the conclusion that 'police' is far easier understood by most here.
