Reading and photography Class

Yesterday was my second Photography class. It was good, mostly. I say this for a few reasons.

First of all I've never really been good at making freinds in a class setting. I often find myself sitting alone and not talking to anyone during the break. I don't really have a problem with that. Most people in my class are either too cool for me to even try and talk to them or are so old and creepy that I don't want to talk to them. Next week might fix that. Our teacher said next week we are going to sit with our "families", So all the Nikon people are going to sit together, etc... It does look like the Nikon people are cooler already though. The Canon groups looks a lot older and geekier. I guess we'll at least be better than the ONE old guy who has a Sony digital SLR. hahahaha!

We also looked at some of each others photos. Our homework was to take a paparazzi photo. I didn't take a new photo, I used a candid I had taken at camp of a few people. Well he picks up my picture and starts to ask the class what story is trying to be told here, like he did with the other photos he picked up before mine. Someone finally speaks up and says "a weekend at the cottage". So he looks at me and asked me what story I was trying to convey with this photo. I didn't know what to say, so the teachers says " Well it's your picture, make something up quick". So I blurted out " a weekend at the cottage". He them moved on to someone else while I wanted to die.

We then proceeded to talk about "what we want to convey with our photographs". I realized really fast that I don`t really want to CONVEY anything with my photos. I just like taking pictures and getting really good shot. I like when the lighting works really well and I've captured a good expression on someone face. I don't want to convey and story, or make people question things. I can apreciate that kind of photography, it's just not something I like to do. I enjoy much more the artistic side of getting a good shot. I like people to look at my photos and say, that's a really good shot. Not : This is really representative of the society we live in today.

All in all, it's a great class, for the most part we talk a lot about the technical stuff, Shutter speed, ISO, lenses. So I think it's going to be good to develop that side of photography for me. It's made me realize that I've pretty much already figured out what kind of photographer I am. I know what I like to take pictures of and what I want my pictures say.

Ok, on to reading! I just finished book 29 for the year. I've only got a few more months of read left in 2009 and I would really like to reach 50 books. Last year at around this time I read about 24 books from Sept to Dec. I think I can do that again. I'm not wasting my time anymore with books that don't catch me in the first 50 pages!! Also, my iPhone has hindered my reading at night. I tend to play games instead of reading. That needs to stop.

I'm working evenings this week and I plan to read one whole book. I just started The Book Of Negros. Everyone says its an amazing book. So it should read pretty fast.

Well I guess that's it for now. I should shower and get ready for work.

Wow, I didn't even mention once how long it's been since I've updated! haha!
