She woke up to warm breath tickling the back of her neck and a leg thrown over both of hers. Rachel had shifted closer to her during the night. So close that she was now spooning Quinn. If she had fallen asleep facing the other way they would be cuddling, maybe Quinn’s arms would be wrapped around her. She squeezed her eyes shut, stopping her thoughts from going there.

She raised her head to look at the clock on Rachel's bedside table. 5:53 AM. Quinn always woke early when she was sleeping in an unfamiliar place. Her thoughts drifted to what she did before she fell asleep. She hadn't even realized she was doing it till she had already done it. She'd only spent one day with the girl and she was already developing a crush on her. Maybe it would go as quickly as it had come. Sure, she had always thought Rachel was physically attractive. But in school she was a pain in the ass which made her less attractive. However, spending the day with her showed Quinn that Rachel was the opposite of how she was in school.

Her thoughts were suddenly disturbed when the sound of Bonnie Tyler's 'I need a hero' filled the room. Only Rachel.

Rachel leaned over the blonde to turn off her alarm assuming she was still sleeping. In doing so she pressed herself against the other girl's bear arms and further into her back. Quinn squeezed her eyes closed and bit her lip. She felt Rachel leave the bed and could hear her opening and closing draws. After a few minutes a strange whooshing sound started. She rolled onto her back and sat up on both elbows, searching for where the sound was coming from. At the other side of the room Rachel was on her elliptical machine, a light layer of sweat coating her forehead already. She greeted Quinn with a broad, bright smile. She was instantly drawn in and returned the smile with a matching one of her own.

Quinn gave Rachel a quick once over. She had changed into tight, black Lycra shorts and a different tank top. Her hair was tied up loosely and she was wearing a head band to stop any of it falling into her eyes. Quinn thought she looked good. Great even.

"You can use my shower if you want to." Rachel said not stopping what she was doing.

Quinn looked down, tearing her eyes away from the expanse of smooth, tan thigh that her shorts revealed. "Thanks, but I had probably better get going."

This made Rachel stop. "Oh. Do you not want some breakfast? Breakfast is very important to a bal-"

"I'll grab something when I get in." Rachel made another small 'oh' sound.

"Well, would you like to do something later?" The brunette asked as she stepped off the machine, breaking eye contact with the other girl.

Quinn released a small sigh. "No, I should probably do something with my Mom." When Rachel wouldn't look at her, she felt the need to explain herself. "It sounds like a poor excuse, I know, but she'll think I'm avoiding her. It's not because I didn't enjoy spending time with you. I did."

Rachel looked up, beaming. "Thank you."

"Okay, so I'm gonna go get changed."

When Quinn came out of the bathroom Rachel was sat on her bed waiting for her. "I'll walk you to the door."

Both girls were silent till they reached the front door. "Thank you for letting me stay. I actually had fun. You're not so bad outside of school."

"And you're not such a bitch outside of school." Said a smirking Rachel.

Quinn winced. "Okay I deserved that."

"No, I'm sorry. Like I said fresh start." Rachel smiled at her encouragingly.

"Thank you." Quinn said, wondering how Rachel could be so forgiving. "I'd better go. I text my Mom while I was in the bathroom to say I was setting off."

She walked quickly down the path and got into her car. Once the engine was on she gave a quick wave and small smile to the girl up the path, leaning against the door frame.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Rachel. It's Quinn."

"Quinn! Hi. Not that I'm not pleased to hear from you but how did you get my number?"

"You gave it to everyone in Glee. In case we wanted singing lessons after school."

"Oh." Said an embarrassed Rachel.

"Thank you, again, for letting me stay over."

"You're welcome. Did you have a nice day with your Mother?"

"It was... fine."

Quinn thought back to earlier that day, sitting at the table with her mother, eating a lunch she had made for the two of them. They had never really discussed Beth before. It was still a very sensitive topic for her. Her Mother asked her about the decision she made, and she told her she wasn't ready to talk about it. Moments of silence passed, and then Judy Fabray asked again, pushing harder and questioning why she wasn't ready. Quinn saw red and had snapped. She said things about her Father she couldn't take back, and upon reflection, couldn't really apologise for. But she knew her Mother would forgive her, purely because of the fear that Quinn would go, leaving her on her own.

"It'll take time for things to get better, Quinn. You went through a really hard time and you needed her more than ever before. But she rejected you and it hurt. It still does. But she is trying to make amends. Things won't just slot into place. I mean, look and Shelby and I. I thought that we would instantly slot into our Mother/Daughter roles, but that was ridiculous. We didn't even know one another. At least you grew up with her and have memories with her. Things will get better."

For someone who could admit they were highly self-involved, Rachel had observed a lot of things about Quinn.

"Thank you." Whispered Quinn.

Smiling into the phone Rachel asked: “Would you like to do something together tomorrow?"

"Sure," Quinn said softly. "You can pick what we do since I picked the film."

"Wonderful. Come by my house tomorrow around noon. And bring some DVDs with you."

They were sat on the Berry's sofa with a bowel of half eaten French Fries on the coffee table in front of them. They had just finished watching The Notebook and were waiting for Mean Girls to start.

"I can't believe you didn't cry." Rachel said as she continued to wipe her eyes.

"I can't believe you haven't seen Mean Girls before." Countered Quinn. "Anyway, I didn't think it was sad."

"Quinn! They fought for their love and then died together holding hands!"

"So? That’s basically what happened in The Bicentennial Man."

"You didn't cry at The Bicentennial Man either?"

"You did?" Mocked the blonde.

"Do you cry at any films?"

"Yes, of course. I'm not made of stone."

"What films?"

"Erm..." Quinn teased.

"Quinn!"

"Relax, Berry, I'm kidding. Now shush. The movie is starting." The blonde joked as she ignored the other girls glare.

It was after 11pm and the girls had just finished watching Little Miss Sunshine. During the course of the day they had moved closer together on the sofa, shoulders and knees now touching.

Rachel tilted her head towards Quinn. "Would you like to stay over again?"

"Would you judge me if I told you I thought this might happen?" Asked Quinn with a small smile. Rachel looked at her questioningly, so she continued, "I've got an overnight bag in my car because I wear adult sizes," Quinn said, playfully. "And I already told my Mom I might be staying over."

"How very presumptuous of you, Miss Fabray."

"Or predictable of you."

"Go get your bag, Quinn." Said Rachel, standing up to clear up their glasses.

Quinn stood up and stretched her arms over her head. As the smaller girl reached the kitchen door, she called out softly, "Oh Rachel? Thanks." The shorter girl ducked her head to hide her smile and continued into the kitchen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both girls were lying on their backs in Rachel's bed, their shoulders nearly touching. Quinn was trying to school her breathing. After spending all day with Rachel and now being so close to her while she was wearing so little, she wasn't sure staying over was wisest thing to do. Despite what students of McKinley High may say; Rachel was obviously straight. She had dated Finn, had a brief thing with Puck, and of course Jesse who, if the rumours from Glee were correct, she had slept with. There was no way she would be interested in Quinn. Her and Rachel could potentially be really good friends and the blonde didn't want to mess that up. Being friendly with her was easier than being mean to her, except from her diminishing self-control. She was just going to have to wait for her crush to pass.

Rachel shifted onto her side facing Quinn. "I really enjoyed today."

Quinn turned her head and smiled. "Me too."

"Can I ask you something? I completely understand if you don't want to answer." She asked not meeting the other girls eyes.

"Okay." Answered Quinn as she rolled onto her side mirroring Rachel’s position.

"Do you regret having intercourse with Noah? Putting religious views aside, I mean Noah as the choice for your first."

“I regret not waiting for someone who I was sure loved me and who I was sure I loved. I feel bad about the hurt that it caused but I don’t regret that it meant that I brought another life into this world. Do you have any regrets about sleeping with Jesse?” Rachel was momentarily taken back that she knew about that. Quinn misread her hesitation. "Come on, Rach. Tit for tat."

"I didn't sleep with Jesse. I'm still a virgin. But it's good to know that Finn can keep a secret." Rachel said, rolling her eyes.

"I'm sorry." Quinn was relieved to hear that she hadn't slept with Jesse after he revealed himself to be a true jerk. "Do you regret not sleeping with him?"

"No not after the whole egging incident. I thought he was more mature than that. And I thought that he would have been more considerate of my veganism." Sighed Rachel.

"Would you ever go back out with him?"

"I'm not sure. I'm a very forgiving person-"

"Obviously, otherwise you wouldn't be in bed with me." Quinn blushed as she realised how that sounded, but it went unnoticed by Rachel.

"Exactly. But I have my limits. I don't know how far that forgiveness stretches. I trusted him despite my better judgments and he just made a fool of me. I trusted him even though everyone told me not to. I just felt so humiliated and like such an idiot."

"You're not an idiot, Rachel." Quinn said as she put her hand on Rachel's arm to comfort her, and rubbed her hand back and forth over soft skin. "You're human and you made a mistake. Don't beat yourself up about it, okay?"

"Thank you. Quinn, this side of you is really...refreshing. I like it." Said a smiling Rachel. "My alarm is going off in the morning at 6am. I have a strict routine to uphold. I'll turn it off as quickly as possible so I don't wake you up."

"Yeah, I thought as much. I brought clothes to change into to go for a run while you're on your elliptical machine."

"When you come back you can have a shower and then I'll make us some breakfast."

"Yes Ma'am." Quinn said, giving the other girl a salute.

Rachel gave her a playful shove in return. "Go to sleep, Fabray." And Quinn did, with a smile on her face and it was all thanks to Rachel Berry.
