A quick little story which was a major boost to my self-esteem, particularly as my birthday approaches in a couple of weeks and I will turn a ripe 43 ...
I play in a women's softball league, mostly gay, and this is my 12th season playing. With each season, older players get more injuries and are not in as good of shape and they drop out while the "young bucks" filter in to take their place, meaner and leaner. Now, I am still able to hold my own and am a good fielder and a decent batter and consider myself to be in pretty good shape, which feels good. But this made me feel even better : when I get home from the game last night my partner relays to me that a number of younger women were commenting during the times I was up to bat about my pecs and how muscular I was and things like "she looks like she doesn't have an ounce of fat ..." She didn't say a word, but just smiled. She said she couldn't wait to tell me when we got home. I played it off, saying "Oh gosh, Oh gee..." I blushed from ear to ear, but really did enjoy hearing it !
