Yay Fall!

Oct 19, 2009 20:17

The main drawback to working in a beautiful park is that the crazy busy times just so happen to coincide with the most beautiful times of the year - it's hard to find time to get out and enjoy.  I did manage to squeeze in a quick hike yesterday, and got a few pictures of the TREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!   OMG.  Even though I've lived here all my life, ( Read more... )

I love the close ups, too. I can never decide which leaf is my favorite - the red one, yellow and orange mottled one, the russet brown one..

Such lovely pictures! I know how the color never shows up on photos the way you want it to (hey, that's what Photoshop is for!) I love the little frog, he's a cutie! We're having the last of the spurts of warm weather, and boy was there a frog having a go at it just a couple of days ago! All the teachers were wondering where the fella had come from. I'm glad to hear the possums are doing well! Do they hibernate in winter?

Photoshop - I need to get me that one, for sure! The weather has warmed up quite a bit this week - all the frogs have been out, getting their last bit of sun basking before it gets really cold.

Possums don't hibernate, although they will hole up in their dens for several days if the weather is really bad. They have a rough time this far north - you often see them with frostbite on their poor little naked ears and tails.

TREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!! :DDDDDDD

Leaf snoofling is the BEST. All the kids today had big bouquets of sycamore leaves they were carrying around - why the heck people get married with flowers all the time? Leaf bouquets, and leaves in the hair, and cute little flower girls and boys sprinkling leaves down the aisle, now that's the ticket.

Kittens make good styrofoam mops, I've discovered ^_~

::fans self:: Trees. Tarting up in preparation to GETTING NEKKID!!!! 8D
Maaaan, at the renfaire this past weekend, there was such a gorgeous silvery white barked tree - couldn't tell from that distance if it was a sycamore (which would be unusual for around here) or an unusually lovely eucalyptus - certain species of which are like weeds here. And I didn't bring a camera. Drat!!!

Hee! Y'know, I think I've actually seen magazine photos of people doing just that, marrying in autumn... It's a splendid idea! I find weddings kind of horrifically fascinating - having been a bridesmaid...uhhhh five times? No desire to be a bride, really. But I love the dresses. <3

Oh my. XDDDDDDDDD I'll have to remember that. Lockheed likes being dragged around on the floor... o.O

Ooh, pretty. It's all colourful and orange and green and leafy and froggy and pretty! *takes a breath*

I still wish we had a proper autumn, instead of just skipping from summer to winter and back again. Either way, the only green things are the weeds - everything else is brown. Blegh for drought.

I particularly like the pictures of the maple leaves. They're so pretty. I don't think we have maples here.

Possums? *is curious*

Yeah - drought is no fun. We had a summer a long ways back where we didn't get a good rain until late August; I was never so happy to see water in all my life!

The maples are such fun trees - their seeds are like little helicopters, and we tap some of them in the spring to collect the sap, and make maple syrup.

I'm a park naturalist and volunteer wildlife rehabilitator in rl, and opossums are my specialty. I get between 50-100 orphans every year, that I raise and release, and now and then there's one with some sort of injury or issue that wouldn't survive in the wild, so I get special permits to keep them and use them for education at the park. Right now I've got three education opossums and eight orphans - three will be released in a few days but the other five are still too little and will have to wait unitl spring. If you go to my tags and click "opossums" that will bring up some pictures and videos of my kids ^^

Well, we've been in a declared drought zone since 2000, so I'm very, very over it. One day I'm going to live in a place where it does nothing but rain.

Pretty sure there's no maples out where I live...outback Australia's not very conducive to pretty trees. Except for wattle and bottebrush, which is more of a pretty flower.
Maple syrup...goes on pancakes?

Oooh, your job sounds interesting. *goes off to find out more about opossums* Much better than being a student, anyway.

Mind terribly if I friend you?

Friend away, I'd be delighted! Mind if I friend you back?

Oi, drought zone for 9 years, no fun. Have you been hit by wildfires in your area? And yep, maple syrup on pancakes, although I'm fond of it on ice cream, myself. Yum.

It is an interesting job, although I miss being a student sometimes. I can feel bits of my brain, stagnating away, lol, and I miss college where there was a whole smorgasboard of different cultures and opportunities right at my fingertips all the time.

I specifically picked this camera because it could get good close ups - they aren't high resolution, but they're good enough for internet and powerpoint. It's actually a fairly non-fancy video camera that can also take still shots.

Thank you! ^_^
