Finally getting a day off here and there to catch up with life (although not quite the break I was hoping for, since my volunteer coordinator resigned so taking over a lot of her duties and starting the hiring process all over again, hurrrg). Things accomplished: kitchen cleaned, carpet shampooed, laundry, grocery, and outside opossums cleaned out. Yet to be done: mow the grass.

It's been a really good month for monarch butterflies, at least in my area! Very heartening to see them after their lowest overwintering population ever.

Baby monarchs! These were all on the teeny milkweed seedlings I've been growing to give away at work.

Three late-season opossum babies and one late baby squirrel. I don't mix species as a rule, but squirrel grub refused to stay in his little cup and kept climbing out to snuggle with the opossums. I'm trying to find someone with another late squirrel baby as a buddy for him so he doesn't grow up thinking he's an opossum!

Squirrel close up - the lady who found him thought he was an opossum; they look very similar at this age, but the little dark toenails are the giveaway (opossum toenails are clear).

One of the bigger kids getting upgraded to the outdoor pen.

Mmmm, carrot!

Baby painted turtle hatching! Mom got crushed by a car and we actually removed the eggs from her body, weren't sure if they would hatch or not, but five of the seven seem to be viable (two just shrivelled up). We'll see if the other four hatch over the next few weeks.

Teeny newly hatched green frog tadpoles on a lily pad.

Obviously this birthday card was designed with me in mind! I was out shopping with mom (I've enlisted her in BraQuest - journey to specialty bra store scheduled for tomorrow) and handed her the card and she rolled her eyes and bought it for me :D

My water lilies blooming. Pond watches the sky.

Basement cat! Bonesy in her favorite spot.

This is from very early spring but I don't think I put pictures up: converted an unused critter pen (inherited from a friend but the holes are too big for baby opossums) into an outdoor cat pen. One day when my ship comes in I want to convert my back porch into a catio, but until then, this works pretty well! Toast and Gan love it, but Bones wants nothing to do with it.

Oooh, the great outdoors! Birdy noises! Sniffings!

The plants are all much bigger now - can't even see the houses behind me. The grass seed I put in there has survived and Toast and Gandalf graze like cows and then barf it up, such fun!

Cinder blocks. The ultimate outdoor comfort, yep.
