There is no warning. No sound. No flash. There is only a quick glimmer of light reflecting off metal from one side: three darts on a perfect course to bury into Muraki's neck and side.

Luckily, Muraki raises his arm in the instant between Omi arriving in his dream and him realizing the boy is there. It means the dart meant for his neck ends up in his wrist instead.

He hisses and laughs as he turns towards the source of the pain. "You do remember that this didn't work well on me last time, right?" Of course, last time he wasn't caught off guard, but he can regain the edge in a hurry. All it takes is a moment for him to focus and call down a swarm of bats, hoping they surround Omi to drain his energy while Muraki tugs the darts free.

Omi is prepared for teleportation and energy-draining touch. This is his first time seeing the bats. He runs towards Muraki and his would-be victim, not losing sight of his true goal: to get the girl out of his clutches before it's too late. He knows he can't fight Muraki face to face, leaving the only real hope one in which he paves a path of escape.

He doesn't look behind him or over his head to see how close the bats are. Ultimately, it doesn't matter.

"You can't save someone who's already dead in reality, Omi-kun." He's not sure if she can be saved here in his dream, but Muraki would love to see him fail because his reactions are far more entertaining that way.

The bats descend on Omi, draining just enough of his strength to heal Muraki's dart wounds.

"She's alive here!" Omi yells back, fully undeterred by that detail. It infuriates him and saddens him to hear of her fate from reality, but that won't change his actions here. The bats are a nuisance but he pushes past them as well as he can, barely noticing the drop in his energy as he charges over and shoves the girl away.

"Run!"

Finally, she comes to her senses enough to start moving away from the two of them. Muraki snarls his annoyance and in an instant, the bats disappear. "You're foolish to think that saving someone in a dream matters at all."

Now that his wounds are healed, he moves in closer to Omi again and reaches out to grab him as he had months ago, only with different intentions this time.

The annoyance is more than enough gratification for Omi. He falls to a defensive crouch, already on the watch for more of Muraki's tricks. He snarls back in a low voice, "How is it different from thinking that killing someone in a dream matters?"

He leaps backward from the attempt to grab him.

"Because killing her here is like repeating the past, which everyone does in their minds. You may save her here, but you can't change any of my past actions."

Muraki isn't sure how much of the past between then Omi is willing to remember and how much his mind has forgotten for the sake of his well-being. Maybe this will let him figure that out once and for all. Omi moves, so Muraki grabs the wire from his pocket and uses an end of it as a noose of sorts, aiming for Omi's wrist.

"That doesn't make it different!"

Omi can't remember ever seeing Muraki use wire before to fight. However, he's fought alongside Youji long enough to know how dangerous it can be if one isn't careful. He whips his hand away from the wire's path.

"It doesn't matter anymore. She's escaped."

"It's different to me and in this place, isn't what matters to me the most important thing?" This is Muraki's dream world, after all, and while he doesn't have the best control over it, he still has some amount.

He's more used to using the wire as a restraint than a weapon, so it's not hard for Omi to evade him. It only makes him wonder yet again what he and his friends are hiding, though, and why their dreams haven't given them away yet.

"By letting her get away, you just put yourself in her place. Can you guess what I intended to do to her, Omi-kun?" Omi probably could, if he could think about what had happened to him and Aya when Muraki focused his interests on them.

Omi is no stranger to assumption, but in this case, he doesn't even need to rely on that much.

"You were going to kill her. You won't get the chance to do the same to me!"

What transpired between them and Muraki in Somarium never even factors into Omi's mind except in influencing his refusal to close his eyes to concentrate. He'll just have to focus enough to leave the dream and wake up without taking his eyes off of the man.

"Eventually, yes. But I happened to have other plans before she ended up with a slit throat under that sakura tree. I could always do the same to you again." He won't, because it's apparent that anyone can join this dream and they don't need to see him molesting someone.

Fed up with this game, he grabs the scalpel in his pocket instead of the wire. Hurting Omi sounds nice.

The phrasing that time is enough to tip him off. And to throw him just that needed bit off-balance. He visibly falters in that moment. If Muraki was looking for a good opening, this is likely his best chance.

Seizing an opening is one of the things Muraki does best. He closes the distance between them and grabs Omi's right upper arm firmly, assuming that he wouldn't be as good with his arms without the use of his dominant hand.

With his own right hand, he showed off the scalpel.

Omi jerks his arm as soon as Muraki's hand closes around it. It doesn't help. Next course of action is to grab Muraki's right wrist with his left hand. Until he can get away, he'll at least make using that weapon as difficult as possible.

"I'm not afraid of that!" Just not interested in getting hurt unnecessarily.

"Then what are you afraid of?" he begins even as he moves his right hand as much as possible, aiming the blade at Omi's face. "Of being violated further or of losing your memories again?"
