I met Nathan Lane last night. I was at a local G.R. bar, and the bartender (who I know) comes up,grabs my arm, and says "Do you know who Nathan Lane is? Well he's sitting at the end of the bar. He's here for a photo shoot." After this jumble of words stream forth I found myself pulled by the hand to the edge of a growing crowd that has gathered. This bartender friend of mine pushes through the crowd with me in tow and says "Nathan, this is Luke and he really wanted to meet you!"
At this point I'm speachless, here is Nathan Lane, a world reknowned actor, a gay icon, an activist, a very faomous man, who I happen to adore. At this point my actor/buisness/weird adult thing that takes over some times takes over and I reach out to shake his hand and tell him all of those wonderful things he is. Including, saying what every gay boy who's met him, I'm sure, says: "I do some acting and modeling and one day dream of being able to be as inovative and daring as you". He drunkenly smiles and nods, saying "Well thankyou! Best whishes! Pleasure to meet you!" I turned and walked away, thinking that that was so easy, and really not at all like those clips you see on E! Where the celebrity has fans screaming and pushing forward to even just touch their idol.
But the night wasn't over. I also happend to strike up a conversation with this skiny, designer clad, gold boot wearing apparent hair stylist. He says he's in town for a traveling hair show that is going on at the Amway Grand. As we continue to chat about G.R, hair, hair stylists, hair salons, hair extentions, hair products, good hair, bad hair, exc, I find, turns out, he's the guy who does the styling for the band Scissor Sisters. And the gold boots he's wearing were given to him by the lead singer, who never wore them.
What a random night.
A night that takes the phrase "A gay old time" to a whole nother' level.
Random. But now I can say I met Nathan Lane. And really, how many people can say that? . . . Wait...
