My Life, My Diet, My Body

I don't want to let myself be unhealthy any longer, and I feel like I'm taking a step in the right direction towards not treating my body like a disposable resource. With my dad's cancer diagnoses, likely due, somewhat, to a lifetime of being obese, I'm even more determined to get my genetically unathletic behind into shape ( Read more... )

You have a good point, but not one that I'm unaware of.

First off, I do, sort of, enjoy this type of exercise. It's tough, but if it was too tough I wouldn't have stayed in the class. Some of it is really hard, but I like to push myself. And I like the feeling of accomplishment just waking up early and getting through the class.

Secondly, I know the whole idea of working out and giving yourself rest in between workouts. But right now, for the most part, I'm focusing on cardio to burn fat before starting a serious muscle routine. In both my classes I'm lifting less weight than I actually can, but both focus on few breaks for very short time, so it keeps my heart rate up. I'm hoping doing that five times a week will help me build up my endurance so I can move on to a real, self-driven exercise program.

Maybe I am going about it the wrong way. But I don't know what else to do. I know you say exercise should be fun but there's nothing about exercise that I like. The only thing that comes close is dancing, but at my skill level I don't get a great workout from that. And I'm not in the mood to dance every day, just sometimes. I do like lifting weights, even though it's painful, because I like feeling strong.

As far as the eating part goes... I've used SparkPeople a lot before (similar to the daily plate I think) but it's such a pain in the ass to track everything I eat. I try to limit my calories to about 1200 a day, 1500 if I'm putting in an hour-long workout. Some days I pay more attention than others, but overall I'm definitely eating less than I used to. Hoping the combo of cardio and somewhat better eating (low carb, high protein, etc) will pay off.
