Audition Followup

So... I got called back for ensemble for The Producers and Ermegarde and ensemble for Hello Dolly. Not too surprising. I was hoping to get called back for Irene so I could get to sing a little more, especially one of her songs. Oh well. I won't get Ermegarde because that part was listed as "strong dancer" on the audition form and I'm anything but. I could pull off the acting for that part but it's just a real characturey whiney part. The dance audition will take me out of the running for it anyway.

Now I just need to decide if I really want to do ensemble in either of these shows. I used to always accept an ensemble role in anything. Not that I believe I'm good enough for a lead in any show, but I also think that when I sign up for an ensemble part in a musical it takes away the opportunity to audition for something else. Or to have my weekends free...

That said, I did check off that I would do ensemble for these shows on the audition form. Dolly's ensemble would be fun, there are some good full cast numbers in that. And I'll be able to enjoy it instead of being hated by the whole cast ala Dolly at Carl Sandburg Middle School circa 1996/97.

Dolly is in the spring, which is so far off I can't think of conflicts at the moment. I just found out my good friend back in Jersey is getting married on 10/23, so I hope I can get back for that.

Meanwhile, auditions for Guys and Dolls are in 2 weeks. And I think I'd much rather be in the ensemble for that then The Producers, which runs the same time. Pacifica is a little bit of a pain to get to, but it'd be worth it for G&D. And I might have a small shot at a role there, since it's further out of the way, they have a smaller casting pool. Always good for people like me who aren't quite talented enough to get cast when the pickin's good.

Callbacks for The Producers are tomorrow night, and I'm still deciding if I should go or not. Next Monday is Hello Dolly callbacks. I might go to that because I'll get to read for Emermegarde (Sp?), and what the hell, that could be fun. I tend to do well on the reading section of musical auditions. In any case, I think I probably picked the wrong song to audition with given I had 12 bars to sing. I do want to audition for Guys & Dolls, so I think that means I'll have to turn down any chance I'd have at Producers ensemble. I'll probably say nay on Producers and go to the Dolly callbacks with an open mind.
