So the Petit home invasion-murder trial has pretty much consumed the local news here.
It's down to the penalty phase and they're trying to dodge the death penalty. Listening to the recap of the parade of "character witnesses" speak of how these men were good workers and always on time and while they may be mega-repeat offenders with rap sheets as thick as War & Peace, they were really nice guys who really wanted to turn their lives around.
It could almost be laughable if it weren't so sickening.
A man was tied up and nearly beaten to death.
His wife was was raped and strangled.
Their 11 year old daughter was raped.
"Trophy pictures" were taken of the little girl's rape.
The 11 & 17 year old daughters were tied to their beds - alive.
Gasoline was poured around the house.
The fire was too intense for the firefighters to get to the screaming girls.
But these guys shouldn't get the death penalty because they managed to get to their shitty dishwashing jobs on time - at least on the days they weren't committing robbery, assault, battery, rape, arson, and murder.
Mercy died in the fire with those girls.
